PPPoE Connection Dropping.

Hi guys, so im using a PPPoe through Win7 to connect to the internet..

Since about 2 months ago my connection has been very unstable and keeps dropping...
The router is synced and everything should be fine but when i connect my telkom account the connection drops at weird intervals...

Sometimes after 30 min usages and sometimes after 4 hours of usage.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

I've actually had the same problem with Telkom and Afrihost the last month or so. Given I'm on wireless most of the time, but then again its happened while wired a few times too. Sometimes it tells me username or password is incorrect when I try connecting, but so far I've put it all down to connection dropping due to wireless and password thing occurring due to the stringent McAfee rules I have set (prevent password stealers, etc software << can't remember the exact wording). Would've bothered me a while ago but with a download manager not really.

check all the connections for corrosion.

Mephisto, could you try to get your friend's line statistics, in particular the line attenuation, SNR margins and synchronization rates.

It could be the Ethernet card, I had the same problem and after using another card the problem went away.

Had that problem for my torrents on all accounts, I did troubleshooting on the network and shareing centre and it said 'default gateway not available" See if your friend gets a similar message.

Ditto on the incorrect password thing (telkom) and connection dropping (afrihost).
