I given up on Vodacom with this. Its not going to happen, and MTN is the best place to be.

As the advert should state?

You cant afford not to have it... Get it today from MTN!

Me too....even if they do launch them, the mtn offering is much better....price wise

OK .... enough of the horse$hitting around....
V3g who do we contact and who do we bother to get this done?
Please supply some contact details names, emails of someone that will
actually have to listen.....
No use getting upset with you or the people at CS cos its not up to them.
Please give us the names and contact details of the people who are hiding behind layers of V3g's and poor customer service angents so that they can stop taking us for a ride.

Earlier this evening the guys were positive but were still testing.

If you need to contact Vodacom, best bet is to mail the official communication channels. Have a look here: http://www.vodacom.co.za/about/contact_info_media.jsp

I'm very close to this project, so you'll get the most up to date info here. But if you want to formally lodge a complaint, and you're always welcome, you can use the above links.

Vodacom 3G, what we need is to know, what are they testing? What is the problem? Its like the Minister of Communications saying, the arrival of the SNO is imminent. For 2 years she said that, are we going to wait 2 years for PrePaid Bundles? Now we have a 4th quarter launch date for the SNO Consumer Services.

We need to know what the problems are, and a more or less release date from these guys.

Ouch, that analogy is a bit rough! :)

The problems are around stability of the back-end systems. These are new systems developed on new (untested) platforms and in the stress testing certain stability problems came out. The outstanding ones are actually very minor, but when it comes to billing issues, the pass rate is 100%+.

Just think of the stink if a bill run is not 100% correct. You guys will lynch Vodacom :)

As I've said on previous occasions; Vodacom is losing revenue every day this service is not out there. Everyone is acutely aware of this and is working very hard to get the service out.

So what you are saying is that the data bundles are not being released this month, or did I misread your post?

nicovdw...nothing wrong with paying R20 more for a extra 100mb.....even if vodacom do ever launch, i'm not going to throw 100mb away.

I don't doubt that they are busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest getting this ready. I just cannot help being concerned about their compentence. I mean, even MTN could get this right.

Besides, the are still a ripoff, even if they do launch them bundles.

If anyone doubts what v3g is saying to be true, just look at how many Vodacom pre-paid @R2.00/MB data customers, are currently using an MTN pre-paid sim card for data, in their data cards - quite a few forumites have done this. So Vodacom is definitely losing revenue if forumites are a good representative statistic to go by.

If there pre-paid data prices launch at the same prices as they advertised they might as well not launch them, "When you paying per mb every cent counts"

just my 2c worth....

Good point!

Vodacom should beat MTN's prices, not match them.

ok, yes maybe harsh, but from my point on this matter. I understand if they delay it, if it was like the 3G launch. Cause that is new equipment etc, however as far as I know, this should just be a software change.

Contract subscibers can get data etc, so its a simple matter of enableing a prepaid simcard for data. Is there actually new systems that need to be installed or tested? Or just a small software upgrade and a few change in permission settings on the main Vodacom Panel thing that controls billing etc.

Thanks v3g. I'll make work of it.

There wasn't even an errata or apology or guidance or anything in the next newsletter.

I expect a bit more from a company who we are making rich.

Contract billing systems are off-line systems, i.e. they can do the billing after the fact or at best near-real-time, every few hours for example.

Pre-paid is a fully real-time system, i.e. as each byte is sent or received, it must come off your pre-paid credit.

You can imagine it's a much more complex system. Before the question is asked, data is a completely different system to voice, so the pre-paid voice billing systems can't work for data.

So a brand new, real-time billing system. And it must be able to count (in real-time) down to byte level per user.

In other words....we must wait another month???
