Hi folks

We are organizing a small conference (not much details yet I am afraid), and would like to know which day (Monday – Saturday) will be most suitable to you guys. My first idea was a Saturday to accommodate working people, but then more and more industry guys said they would prefer a Friday.

Please let us know which day you would prefer a conference/seminar to be on…if you can give a reason it will even be better :) This is really a general question regarding preferred conference/seminar days, so please give your comments even if you are not interested in any broadband related discussions.

Regards,

RPM

I'm for Saturday - I think productivity could take a knock if something like this was held on a Friday. Any chances of such a coference being held in Cape Town or am I being too optimistic?

Productivity aside, anyway productivity in Cape Town on a Friday is a myth. I find that people are generally more willing to go for something like this on a Friday, especially if it gets them time off work. We often host corporate events and the clear winner is Fridays, till about 13h00 or 14h00. Now I'm also speaking about Cape Town, not sure how the rest of the country operates.

Friday/Saturday...

Friday: in case the majority prefer a weekday due to weekend obligations
Saturday: no need to use up my leave & I am generally available

When and where do you plan to hold this!

Hi Kei and others

Thanks for the feedback so far: please keep it coming!

I do not have a specific date yet (need to select a day first :D), and we must also assess the interest in this conference. It costs quite a bit of money and work to put this together (it will be professional, with snacks, refreshments, a served lunch etc) and we must make sure we can cover costs. It will be in JHB (we have found a great venue at a reasonable cost).

Regards,

RPM

Cape town people dont know what work is :), anyway not to knock you guys, and yes i don live in stellenbosch but moved here last year from JHB.

SATURDAY definately makes the most sense, gives everyone an oppertunity to attend.

Just remember, no partying the night before, k?

Friday is without a doubt the one that will get a larger response for this type of event. What venue have you looked at?

Friday will probably get the most support. Most people don't mind defaulting on a few work commitments, but personal commitments are harder to avoid. :)

What is the agenda?

Hi Arf9999, Briantw

It seems that the logical choice is either Friday or Saturday. My only concern with Friday is that many members who might want to attend will not get paid leave to do so. Saturday has other drawbacks like social commitments and not willing to sacrifice a weekend to attend a conference. More feedback will be of great value.

We are still working on a specific focus: your feedback will be asked at a later stage on this. The venue I have looked at is the UJ HSC building: very nice and professional, ample parking.

If it is after June, any day will suit me fine...

If during June... and it is after 7 at night during the week I can be there till the sun rises the next morning. :D

sigh - pretty stuck on it being a weekend thing. Saturday.

I've been doing events for a while now - "Weekend" and "conference" don't go together. You'd better have jumping castles.

It's gotta be a lot of fun if you're gonna do it on a Saturday. You might want to change the name then, from "conference" to "get-together" or even "family day", LOL :)

I'm going a bit far, but you get the picture. As much as this stuff interests me, I don't see myself doing it on a Saturday without a major 'chill' incentive. I have hosted a handful of weekend 'conferences,' and there has always been an extremely elevated sense of fun about it. There have to be laughs, music and drinks to make it work on a weekend.

Just a thought. Use it, don't use it...

My Choice: Saturday

My choice would be Saturday as any other weekday would be hard to justify getting off work, I have to thinks sometimes :D

any weekend is good - i am in the uk 7th to 19th july.

Friday (I must stress morning), on saturday you are cutting into beer drinking time and then half the members wont attend unless theres free booze and munchies for later.
