There must have been strict instructions - load shedding this week ahead of SONA even if you have to string together Honda portable's! Reduce the planned maintenance until after the speech and then hit us with stage 2-3 next week

Nope, as soon as the EFF shouts "Pay back the money" at SONA, then the load shedding starts.
 
I think it wont last 5 years.

People are already changing their habits and there is a lot of stagnation in the countries growth.

This will come to a head soon... either we have a black out or they put measures in place to curb electricity usage.
 
If we are expecting any intelligent solutions from showerhead during SONA, then trust me we are the fools.

The speech will be the usual rubbish of broken promises and blaming everything on apartheid. Remember this speech is not targeted at the intelligent people in this country, but rather the mentally retarded 62% in this country who vote these idiots into government. Their solutions to all problems are a KFC streetwise two and a T-shirt. That will be followed by a service delivery protest wearing the same T-shirt covered in chicken grease from the streetwise 2.

Until the voters start actually using their brains, Zuma will keep tailoring his speeches to direct it at them.

Articles like this annoy me - people disregard the fact that there are no sources cited and will take the facts present in the article as the only truth.

And that is dangerous thing to do.

The solution is to open the grid and let private companies start feeding power into it.

Also, if there is a company providing electricity in my town, then I want to buy it from them and not be locked with Eksdom.

Five years are too long, our economy will never survive. We need to act now.

I think that is how it works in Germany? You can actually choose who you want to buy power from. Read that a while ago, so not 100% sure of my facts.

That may be the solution, though of course our electricity prices would be way more expensive than they are now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Mbeki governments attempted privatisation of Eskom in the late 1990’s failed because our electricity prices were too low to make it profitable for the private sector to enter the market. They declined. One of the reasons the government didn't invest more in terms of electricity generation at the time (despite being told to do so by Eskom) was because they thought the private sector would invest, then they didn't.
