It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads,
so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.

Capitec has been using some of these for years. Why are the others only waking up now.

Private banking titan Investec has announced that it will soon offer real-time biometric verification to its clients. Instead of answering the conventional questions, the software will recognise your voice to verify your identity.
Very cool but it is not as if Investec really needs it. For your day to day transactions you deal with your Private banker who already know you.
On the other hand it would be useful when you call the support centre.

I hope a sore throat or having a cold/flu won't prevent you from using your credit card.

Here's a thought (probably not new)... Most other forms of identity can be "canceled" and recreated if compromised. What would we be able to do if criminals compromise our biometric information? It's not like I can get a my DNA reset or something....

Interesting times.

Especially as some foreign banks still don't activate PIN codes on their chip and pin credit cards. SA is special though 'cos of our high degree of fraud and banks have to protect themselves. Still it's nice to know that on some premium CC products "Verified by Visa" is disabled. :)

Sigh. This is not going to end well. Biometrics is a login, not a password.
On a related note - I did see a in-store ATM yesterday with a clearly visible slot for a fingerprint reader.

Good point
Biometrics + pin.
