Presidency backs Jimmy Manyi

Jimmy Manyi’s boss Presidency Minister Collins Chabane on Tuesday said he has full faith in Manyi’s ability to continue his job as cabinet spokesperson.

Chabane confirmed Manyi will stay on in the post, despite the fact he said, last year, there was an over-concentration of Coloureds in the Western Cape.

Last week, Planning Minister Trevor Manuel slammed Manyi calling him a racist for making the comments.

Chabane said Manyi must stay on because he has apologised.

“He accepted responsibility. That statement was made sometime ago before he became the government spokesperson and we think now he should be given a chance to continue with his job,” said Chabane.

We could solve all of our 'racist' issues. Just appoint every racist as a government spokesperson and abracadabra, the leopards' spots will be changed.

What I find even more offensive than cronyism, is the fact that the ANC rebuked Manuel for writing that open letter to Manyi.

Since when does the ANC have the sole right to debate and comment on issues of national interest ????

Incompetence is an ANC requirement... you have to fail at at least one thing to be in the ANC lead government... racism, corruption, rape, theft, murder, etc, etc.

Yep I find it quite funny that they will all come out in arms against issues that are quite obvious but have a tiny defensible platform from which to stand. JuJu's song etc... But when its indefensible they are quiet. If I were an ANC supporter, I would be on here saying: "You know what, this was wrong, jimmy is an idiot for what he said and I dont support him directly, but for reasons xyz, I still support the party as a whole".

But then how could you actually say you support the party as a whole, if the whole has just shown itself in unison to be a bunch of racists. I would be quiet too. But watch, in a few weeks when this has blown over and another ANC issue comes along, they will be out in force again, claiming that the ANC can do no wrong. Bunch of hypocritical bafoons. Just like the party they support.

Nope - I meant liberals. Yes, some liberals could be trolls. But then, so too can conservatives.

I do believe that the only reason that some people will follow a party (whatever party that may be) is because dealing with the reality of your belief system having been fractured is too much to cope with. And I do believe that liberals are more prone to this than any other group.

Don't quite agree. We don't need 20 different parties, we need one or two strong opposition parties.

But I think the least he has to do is resign, otherwise he will loose a lot of respect and support.
