Is there any open source software I can upgrade my ASUS WL-500G Deluxe with to join the wug?![]()
I have been doing a bit of digging around on this one, and it does seem possible to remove the internal 2.4ghz mini-pci radio, and replace it with a 5.8ghz mini-pci radio. Also, it appears that both openwrt, and dd-wrt are supported on this unit.
A 802.11 abg radio should cost around about R220 or so from companies such as Uniterm, or Miro.
I cannot guarantee that this will work, but the threads I discovered on OpenWRT's site seem to indicate success. If you have a mini-pci card available which you can try, or borrow, rather than buying one, it would definately be worth a shot. You may find a compatible card inside a nearby laptop too.
If possible, give this a shot, and let us know the results?
Keep on Wugging!
Thanks!
