Price Increases Retail 2016

Yes, then there is a possible VAT increase on the horizon. Retail will have to bite the bullet. Luckily the Moose is based in Namibia.

is it true avos take years to grow?

Yes! I have been growing an avo tree from a pip for more than 9 years in desert conditions, barely keeping it alive.....it's still produces nice green leaves every year and is only about 50cm tall....

Me being in NAm means diddle squat..... I source 90% of all my stock from the grand ol' republic..... and NAM vat been at 15% since day one...... we also pay VAT on F&V , eggs, basics...I think our Vat exempt list has less than 8 items on it.....

On the plus side, I see our German Minister of Finance is pushing for solar and wind energy producers to setup shop in Namibia to wean us off the ESKOM grid..... me thinks he might have a longterm plan to pull us out of the Rand (pronounced ront) ....

We have an avo tree in the back yard. 10 years ago it was in a pot the size of a coke can. Got transplanted... Now it's about 3m tall and 5m wide :D
Still waiting for avos though.

Avo tree takes about 3 years before it bears fruit. Store bought avo pips will grow into trees, but will most likely never bear any fruit.

If you want an Avo tree best would be to pick up one from a nursary.

don't you need 2 of the avo trees with different types or something like that?

I was reading the Financial Times just now on how the imported car parts needed to build local cars, prevents SA cars from being "cheap" export cars...... Wonder why the car manufacturers have not set up mini plants to produce everything locally!

Because it is cheaper to buy parts from China and Eastern Block countries like Poland.
The cost of our work force, amount of strikes, economic instability, etc. ensure we will not be competitive in this regard.

What I noticed between first week of December and first week of January in Checkers:

Pronutro up from R84 to R94
6 Pack Coke Zero up from R42 to R49

Doing some major shopping there this afternoon...will probably crap myself. ( Ooh that reminds me: t-paper....)

yes but you should have a fruit bearing tree between 3-5 years depending. Bee's help! I had lots in my garden when flowering and my plants went wild.

Avery important point to note is that although avocado trees produce both male and female reproductive parts, these two parts are not active simultaneously which makes it very difficult for one single tree to pollinate itself and thus produce fruit on its own.

It is always better to plant a proper grafted tree.
