Unfortunately, due to the prevailing greed inspired attitudes so inherently visible in this telecoms industry of ours, I am hard pressed to believe that the not-so-subtle hint at some real for-the-people offerings are going to realize.
I'm guessing that the current operators milked the consumer dry because they needed to get their cash stocks up in order to build their networks as they have and still maintain a profit.
I believe that if 3G were to fail, the telecom operators in this country could comfortably continue to exist without fear of closing business. They would suffer extreme losses, but they have sufficient fallbacks.
I also believe (and hope) that prices will now start to come down, but I remain suspicious about whether it's due to Virgin Mobile / Virgin Money. These companies (MTN, VC, Cell C) know the playing field. They do (or should at least) plan years in advance.
In this country you make money three ways (legit means not considered):
Working for goverment
Paying the goverment
Being the goverment
(It helps if the customers are idiots and know of no better)
