Hi MTN DD

About 2 months again you hinted at MTn dropping their data rates - you said watch this space. With the Virgin rate of 50c/MB being out there when can we expect the MTN announcement?

WHFO

What I do not get is loyalty to a provider. If they drop rates now, because of competition, then why not before?
It always puts me in mind of company politics. I ask my boss for a raise, he says "no". I then get another job, and resign, and then my boss offers me more money to stay.

Good day,

I mentioned the DATA bundles being looked at in terms of filling in the gaps and data rates being looked into with the bundles. I know that the final draft has been handed to the BU's awaiting sign off

Will advise when I can..........

Well I feel so much better knowing that it's being "looked into". </sarcasm>

Bet if there was true competition they could drop their rates at the drop of a hat.

And it seems it is only for bundles anyway. I want CHEAP, EASY pay-as-you-go data. 1MB a month at 50c (or less), or 100MB.

I'm seeing myself going over to Virgin Mobile when my 4 contracts expire the end of this year.

I spend about R2000 per month on Cellphone bills. Maybe that's not a lot, but I'm sure there's more people out there thinking about doing the same thing.

This is not just about lowering tariffs but about 3G/HSDPA coverage as well. I think Virgin Mobile will have better 3G/HSDPA coverage than MTN before the end of this year.

They running off cellC...

I don't think this year.

Does CellC have 3G?

My 2c.

I could care less for the speeds, I want better rates. Cheap first, fast later.

Hardly makes a difference to me if I need to wait a little for a 20meg file. 20meg file @R2 = R40, or 20meg file @ 50c = R10.

A bit like the whole Telkom carp. Why do I need a 1meg line when I can still only afford 3GB per month??

We all want that, with Bransons Cash and worldwide experiance, Virgin will most likely have more 3G coverage then mtn by 2007, and offer better rates. Cell C might seem behind the times but with all this new technology i think they are letting the other operators iron out all the problems (ie...vodacom pre-paid data)

Unfortunately as mentioned cheaper isn’t always better,

MTN are looking at launching bundle’s that the market have asked for as well as something we think will work

No 3G yet will be here by December this year

I assume Cell C will be using Vodacom's network for 3G?

Huh? If you are replying to the original quote with that answer it makes positively no sense. Are you trying to imply that MTN cannot / will not / should not lower their prices "because cheaper is not always better"? Is the magical "over priced fairy" going to wave her wand and make the MTN network poorer in performance if the price is lowered?

Or am I missing something in your response?

I've decided to screw MTN's Data stuff.... and i went and got a Virgin simcard... they only launched this week tho is what the ppl say - and the sim card doesn't work with my HSDPA card from MTN yet.... because they're having some problems with Datacards vs GPRS.... but i am definitely not gonna pay R2/mb when i can get it for R0.50!!

On the other hand however.... Virginmobile in the UK isn't as HUGE as u might think - they're still quite a small-ish company compared to the other players.... also running off another cellphone network's network.... i don't really think that they'd go crazy with their own towers and everythign ... but who knows - if they do - i'm the 1st to go over! :)
