Exactly

I for one take no offence to being called a Whity or a Boertjie in conversation with my friends at work. Nor do they if I refer to them as darkie, Charo or bushy. Now clearly Harry was talking to one of his friends in his squad. I honestly see no harm in it what so ever.

And Marine, the heading to the thread is sensationalist :p

No where did he say he hates/dislike Paki's
You should, just as darkie is a no-no.

Here's the thing, I hate the royals and I'd love to see them get their comeuppance. If Harry gets in trouble for saying something that would be petty if anyone else said it, I'd be standing in line to light the bonfire. The fact that they set such high standards for themselves makes it even better if they slip and fall from grace.
I'm far from politicallly correct myself, but I know when to place a guard in front of my mouth whereas he and his dad seem have regular foot in mouth disease..

As for why I hate them - does the Anglo Boer War ring a bell? Even though they invented concentration camps they have never apologised.

Burn in hell Harry you inbred, burn in hell.
They didn't invent it. It happened 3 years ago when he was younger and more immature. Everything he says or does is in the spotlight. Can be tricky to imagine yourself as a royal sponger with your name and actions making headlines.

"Paki" was the blokes nickname in the army and "raghead" was what they called the Taliban insurgents. It was typical army talk.

Edit - And the bloke referred to as "Paki" was his mate.
This is true, but not just the terrs. Even Paki is still common in the North of England.

They didn't invent it.
They named it, they claimed it.

But that's not the point. There was never an apology or admittance of fault, unlike the Germans who have paid vast amounts of compensation for theirs.

Scarred for life :p
I've heard it called recently. The English are supposed to take name-calling, but nobody else.

Royal family + media = storm in a teacup.

His comment was in reference to his "Paki friend" I would love to know whether the friend in question found it offensive.

Look it IS regarded as being offensive in UK society. I've heard people say it to friends and so on, but you can see they aren't comfortable with it. He's apologised to the guy, so maybe they should let it go.

Saying Paki is generally considered offensive here and can even earn you a warning from the coppers. There's millions of Pakistani's here and English in general harbour animosity to them because whole neighbourhoods and cities here have been over taken by people from Pakistan.

Wow - talk about overkill !

This from Sky News:=

But Khan's father Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Abbasi accused the prince of using a "hate word" against his son.

"When I saw the video I was very, very hurt. I strongly condemn the fact that Prince Harry used that language against my son," he said.

"That word he used is a hate word and should never be used against any Pakistani.

"Prince Harry should apologise to the Pakistani Army and to the Pakistani government for this.

"I cannot accept his apology unless they first accept his apology."

All for saying ' our little Paki friend ' ?

To put a local slant on the topic...

K FACTOR

The "K" word is now outlawed
Its utterance a crime,
The petty rule of some poor fool
A silly waste of time.

Sticks and stones may break my bones
But names can never harm me,
Yet calling a spade a spade today
Could mobilize an army

Call me a Whitey, Rooinek or Boer
I couldn't give a toss,
Settler, Soutpiel, Honkey
Don't even make me cross.

If you are offended by merely a name
While your kinsmen ravish the land
Your priorities are sadly confused,
Their deeds, not our words, should be banned.
