I have given an old mbp (snow leopard) to a friend along with an old canon printer (i560).
I have installed the latest driver for the printer.

however, the printer will not print any document, except a test page, which prints correctly.

the printer appears in system prefs > printers:

it also appears in system profile > printers:

any ideas as what is going on here ?
it will not print any document (text / word / pdf etc) besides a test page.

That is very strange. Have you tried letting the Mac try and find the drivers on its own? That has worked with 95% of the printers I have used.

i did that initially, but when it would only print a test page i downloaded the latest driver from canon support - problem remained

Try updating the printer's firmware if you're sure the driver is not corrupted
