Hi My Broadband peeps,

So for a while I have been getting calls from a few numbers and as soon as I answer the line goes dead, so I added these numbers to my "blocked numbers list". The new thing is that now I'm getting calls from a private number and the same thing is happening, the only issue is you can't add no number to my "blocked numbers list".

I get like 2-5 calls a day and its becoming rather annoying, obviously i don't bother answering anymore I would just like to get it to stop.

Does anyone out there know why this is happening am I on a list of some sort? Anyone else getting the same thing? Does anyone know who is doing the calling? And lastly is there a way to stop this?

Please help me out here if you can.

Thanks in advance.

Marketing - they're recording the likeliness of you answering a call at a particular time of day.

I wish there was a way to stop it... but I'm grateful for Truecaller!

Been having the exact same issue recently.
Obviously I fabricated a story in my head that it's a beautiful stalker too shy to actually speak to me and just wants to hear the sound of my voice for a few seconds. But some sort of marketing malarkey is more likely.
Guess I'll give this TrueCaller a go.

Ditto. The worst is that they have our landline as well. So. If you ignore the cell call, the landline phones 2 seconds later. The problem is that we can't block it as some calls from an unknown number is legit and work related.

Truecaller App

Truecaller would block ALL private numbers though, and some might be useful...

The way I deal with this is answer the phone call, but I say nothing until I hear something on the other end of the phone....

Difficult for me not to answer, as the phone extensions at work are all private numbers, so if a colleague is calling I wouldn't know.

Just search for autodailer on the forum there are a few threads. If you block all private numbers for a while it should go away.

Nope that's not how it works. TrueCaller doesn't block anything.
It relies on the number of people who have the app and have added info to every call.
Let's say a spammer calls you from Company X.
One of the Truecall users adds the name "Company X" to that UNKNOWN caller.
From then on, all the other TrueCaller users will see "Company X" next to the UNKNOWN - so they know who is calling them.
I dunno how it works, but it's great!

I have the same problem with the private number calling and no one on the other side 99% of the time.

No, it physically can't work like that.

A private number is a number that has no identifying information that TrueCaller can pick up on to identify it. If you are getting a call from a number you don't know, but TrueCaller does then it can identify it for you.

And yes, it can and does block calls if you tell it to.

If the caller is listed as Spam on Truecaller I have mine set to just autokill the call. So currently ABSA Insurance Brokers are just wasting their time trying to phone me and sell me whatever crap they have.

Maybe yours is broken. Mine pops up with info even on UNKNOWN calls.

Ok we must be talking about different things then..

Private Numbers by their nature are obscuring their number from you on the receiving end.... you can't "identify" them...

OK, so maybe I've got it back to front, maybe it's the UNKNOWN numbers that Truecaller can't give info on, but the private numbers it can?
I dunno, will have to look again on my phone's logs.
Anyway, it's a great app, and worth it's weight in gold.

Well whatever the mystery private number caller is .... its fekkin annoying .... and yes, I have truecaller and no I cant block all private number calls.

This. Just block them and theyll have stopped if you unblock them a month or two down the line. I just keep them blocked. If its important enough theyll contact me eventually.

Is nobody else a little bit paranoid about handing your details to a third party - Truecaller? I edited and changed my name on their system. Truecaller also reports my bank as spam - it also doesn't declare the name so I have to now take the spam calls in case there's an incoming transfer from the bank.
