I just want to reiterate that the disconnection problem has not been resolved as they state on their status page!!!
............

Hi IC

It looks like the disconnection issue may have been resolved in Roodepoort.
Last 4 connection times:

10H25M
12H32M
24H18
11HH12M (Manually disconnected)

Looking much better.
Speed seems to have dropped a lot though, so it is not 100 percent.

ic : the disconnects i'm getting on the Midrand tower seems mostly intentional because most of the times the mtu or router ip address changed after a disconnect. But its not as frequent as before.

Tried Something Different and it WORKED!!!

After much frustration and listening to what you guys are saying about P2P, I tried a different programme and it seemed to work... Let's see how long for??I really have great hopes for iBurst and AM DETERMINED TO MAKE IT WORK!!! It's one of the few really good things we have against _..kom (fill in the missing insult).

Mayh3m, can I take Roodepoort off the list?

IC - I think it is safe to take Roodepoort off the list. I will let you know if it reoccurs.

IC - yep i think its tweaking tuning on WBS not really bug or things like that. And speed on the Midrand tower close to it seems fine too. You get full throttle on it. My biggest problem is signal, but i guess i'll have too boer maak n plan. Started to use the reflector again this fternoon and my download speed went up to 25 - 40 kbytes/s

MTU is 1432. Log off. log on. MTU is 1352. Log off. Log on. MTU is 1432.

The only logical explanation is that different base stations have different MTUs. But what is the point of this? The technology is designed to be able to hand you from base station to base station. But if the base stations are configured differently many connections are going to be unnecessarily degraded.

If would also have been nice if each base station, each with a unique address, was the first hop on a tracert so we could check which station we are connected to. It's okay if you only have one possibility, but I have 4-5 base stations that I could theoretically be connected to.

A few times I've been connected to one that gives me very long (+-1300ms) but consistent pings to iburst. Another that gives me occasional long pings but lots of time-outs. Another with short pings and MTU=1352. Another with short pings and MTU=1432.

Call me a control freak, but I'd like to know!

the need to power off UTDs before one is able to reconnect

This is something I had to do when I had signal problems, especially if the red LED of death had appeared a few times and I had been disconnected. Only powering down and up seemed to clear it. Otherwise I could not log back on.

When you say repowering hasn't made any difference do you mean:
a) You are always able log back on without repowering, or
b) You do the repowering, but still cannot log back on?

Okay, understood, because in my case I had to repower even though the signal had returned. Switch off, switch back, and only then would it connect.

I am having this problem as well. My connection to the iBurst network seems to remain connected, but I can't use any software (MSN, P2P, MIRC, etc... disconnect). I have to reboot my PC and power cycle the iBurst box before it works again. I think this might happen when my IP changes because DC++ reports "unknown address" when I try to reconnect to a hub after one of these disconnections. This seems to be fairly new and has happened several times today.

Same here, right on the dot 17:00 I couldn't connect for 15-30 minutes, got pings to iburst.co.za averaging 900ms, going around 120ms now, checked uunet's network status, iburst's (and the incident page) yet nothing.

I would at least (if they're really listening to us here on the board) update the incident report with ALL of the incidents on this thread.

My boss kills me if I don't document problems or small things we need to add to a program we're writing.

small things add's up.... ALOT

not yet, billing run should be finished in the next couple of days, i wait in anticipation

Billing run went smooth for me, however, I paid 5.20 in debit duties. Seems like WBS doesn't carry that cost and passes it on to the customer. So I'm paying my bank for giving WBS the privilage of debit'ing my account.

Noice....

Dunno. They still haven't taken anything off, and it's cheaper for me to pay them directly than to wait for them to take it off me.

...crazy little thing called control... ;)

yea er... i won't pay them directly if I were you. knowing them (from experience from telkom) they'd probably cut your service due to non-payment, even if you paid a week before the end of the month.

Autopage loves doing that as well
