Yes there does appear to be problems on Intl ADSL access
I've been trying to access certain international sites the whole day without luck, some work some don't (such a Yahoo), fairly inconsistent.
I did some basic tests, and then called DataPro to verify. The support person said he'd been receiving a high number of calls with similar complaints. At the same time he explained it's another situation (typical of most ADSL related problems) where they are powerless to resolve and are waiting on Telkom.
No announcement to customers, no explanation, no resolution time frame, nothing!
I support what someone said earlier, you can ping the sites ok, so routing isn't an issue, but the web pages won’t load.
Sounds like content filtering issues on Telkom's side!!
1. most likely - mis-configurations (a.k.a. incompetence)
2. least likely - crappy technology
3. unlikely - intentional (concerning!!)
Telkom should really read the book "I was your customer" and read it carefully!!
I look forward to the day when:
1. ICASA gets some effective leadership and a nice new set of sharp effective teeth.
2. A foreign Telco (not mickey mouse SA originating) such a BT, Sprint, AT&T etc kicks Telkom's A$$.
3. We get more choice.
4. The definition of customer service gets listed in the South African dictionary.
5. More initiatives like MyADSL, CarteBlance and Special Assignment etc. exist to represent the consumer and expose what needs to be exposed.
