Problems with Pick n Pay Asap! service

My deliveries have been fine. Things have been in stock, quality of perishables have been fine and delivery times have been faster than checkers.

It's of course very area dependant. If your local pnp is worse than your local checkers then you'll be worse off.

What is definitely worse though is the app. I've used both asap and asap beta. The functionality on s60 is just far better.

Haven't had to contact support yet so can't comment on that. But when I did have to for s60 it was a seamless and hassle free. Article definitely sounds like ASAP is not the same.

Checkers 60-60, & PnP ASAP, never worked on my recently retired, 6.5 year old, Android 7.1, basic Redmi 4A smartphone. For online grocery orders, I used P&P website (which is now undergoing changes, and orders don't work), and PnP on Mr. Delivery. I am not a fan of my nearby Checkers, Shoprite and Spar stores, so much prefer PnP for in store or online grocery shopping. PnP on Mr. Delivery is excellent. Deliveries are less than or a bit more than an hour, everything ordered, including fruit and veg, is fresh, cold and frozen stuff arrives that way, and they pick the items with the furthest expiry dates so you don't have to suddenly and unexpectedly rush to use lots of things in a short time. I can also earn eBucks and Smart Shopper polints on Mr. Delivery, and they sometimes offer discount vouchers. on top of that.

Since moving over on eB to PnP we have used ASAP three times.
Overall quite satisfied with the experience.

Pros:
  • The actual products were cheaper than at Checkers. That's a good start. Checkers has become rather expensive.
  • 30% eB rate
Cons:
  • Slower delivery times than 60/60. Had to wait on average about an hour longer. So it's good when you don't desperately need something, but in cases of emergency shopping not recommended.
I cannot comment on product variety. We use the usuals products and nothing specialized. Don't trust either of PnP or Checkers with fresh meat and veg which we rather get from local SuperSpar and FLM which are way better quality and cheaper than Checkers and PnP.
I also buy most fresh stuff at Spar.

Checkers and PnP tend to leave their dairy products in crates outside the fridge.
Each hour you leave something out of the fridge you lose about a day of shelf life.
I have unfortunately bought lots of sour milk at PnP and it is a pain to take it baked, so I just buy from Spar.

The only issues I have had with PNP Asap was that after an hour, they just cancel your order without saying anything. This has happened 2 times out of my 6 deliveries.

PnP is known for bad quality. I once saw vacuum packed meat that had a few bite marks out of it - most likely from some pest. Took it out of the open display fridge and gave it to a manager, explained the issue. He walked right back to the fridge and put it back.
You get some checkers or Shoprite stores that does the same or has quality issues...

Every store will make mistakes, my experience with Checkers has always been that they try to improve and refunds are in seconds.

At Checkers customers are king. For the past two decades the only king at PnP is the shareholders and they fail to listen even to their own revenue figures.

Or if u must use asap then only buy things like coffee/sugar and other non perishables

Exactly. There are 100 things you can buy that are the same no matter where they come from. Toilet paper, coffee, tea, bin bags, sunlight, shampoo, sugar, toothpaste and on and on.

Separate your shopping into those needed things fromPnP and then get your bread, milk and meat etc from somewhere you trust. For me that’s my local Woolworths. I never in my life bought any fresh produce from Checkers so whether it’s them or PnP I order from makes no difference apart from the shed load of cash I get back for using ASAP.

Put in about 5 orders since I started using them in April.

I mostly order non-perishable or long shelf-life products through them, but I did once order some feta and some tomatoes.

The feta had no expiry date printed on it and one of the tomatoes was clearly starting to rot.

Other than that the delivery process has been smooth, with the only delay I've had being around 30min.

I'll continue to use them, but will definitely be strategic in what I order.

Only issue I had was when I wanted wine on a Friday in April, one out of many, it didn’t arrive on that one time. The order got lost and refunded same evening. Then learnt to plan ahead and haven’t had issues.
6060 def had been more consistent in experience but I prefer the 30% in ebucks. And am using it more than I ever did use 6060. I’m going to the shops less, saving me time.
Would I pay for the delivery and use it as much as I have been? I don’t know. But while deliveries are free on the beta app, I’m accepting it. And in fact, cancelled my 6060 subscription for now.

Make sure its cancelled, as I cancelled and it still came off today :(

I think it's very much store dependant. In my experience Asap has been a bit slower than sixty60, but otherwise fine.

My local PnP is one of the revamped stores and is definitely nicer than the closest Checkers.

ASAP baits you in with great deals then doesn't have stock, even with the alternative. Happens with cat food every single time. Then with a credit in your account you're tempted to just use them again next time

Either it's deliberate or their app isn't updated enough to know stock levels. Either way it's incompetence

I just won't use them anymore. I had to harass them for a refund because I wouldn't use it in app

Had it not been for EBucks, I don't know why anyone would ever shop at PnP.
In my case, because a good PnP is within 200m safe walking distance. Spar is 900m. Checkers is 11km by car.

We switched from Checkers Sixty60 to Pick n Pay Asap — and it's been disappointing

We have been using Pick n Pay Asap! for two months and have had more issues with the service than in five years of using Checkers Sixty60.

As FNB customers, we bought groceries at Shoprite Checkers and used its Sixty60 service to earn eBucks starting in 2020.
We've been very disappointed too. It's a running gag with another friend of mine which of us can one-up the other with worst issues. I want my eBucks though, I'm on level five, so I keep using ASAP. But it's pretty awful that FNB is comfortable to be associated with this service, especially after the incredible service of Sixty60.

Can you earn eBucks with Mr D? I was under the impression you could get your Smart Shopper points but not eBucks.

Do you get money back for missing items?

I logged a ticket and they acknowledged - but I’m wondering if that’s the end.

The issue is the delivery fee of (I think) R35.00

I used to subscribe to the R99 extra save that gave me free delivery on R350.00 or more. I used to do more frequent shops, so having no fee was great.

Now over a month I need to watch it as I can rack up R250+ in delivery fees easy

When you order your items they hold the amount for the goods, but they only take the money when the order is complete and delivered. So initial amount is held, then cancelled and actual amount is taken.
