Problems with WOW since Cataclysm

Hello

My current ISP is axxess and I am on their Lite package which gets you 1GB for R19 and as far as I am aware this is also unshaped

I have a 4 mbps line through telkom

My latency sits at a constant 350 - 400ms

Prior to Cataclysm I had very little problems with game play but since Cataclysm I am experiencing constant disconnects multiple times a night as well as hug lag spikes especially during 5 man dungeons. What is strange with these lag spikes is that your character and environment freeze but your in game chat continues to work fine

Just wanting to find out if anyone else is having similar problems and if their is a solution to this

I am not sure if the problem is with Axxess, my telkom line or the international servers

I am assuming then that AXXESS makes use of IS? Was trying to see this on there website but couldnt find out. I remember a while back you had a choice between I think it was IS and SAIX with Axxess, SAIX obviously being more expensive

Ok so if IS is having packet loss issues what is a good ISP to switch to the interim that doesn't use IS

I'm having the same problem lately. Running through Cybersmart and Afrihost. Do both of them run on IS? Gameplay seems to freeze as if disconnected, but the chat keeps running.

I'm with afrihost and the last 2 days have been the same for me, I eventually gave up on dungeons and just started to farm. Ons of my friends who is also with afrihost had the same issues this weekend.

My wife is playing at home and say she still having lots of dc's
 
Yes axxess lite piggy backs off the IS backbone for international. They claim its unshaped, but various testing shows that it infact shaped. Plenty of disconnects atm as well, a few a night. Havent really felt the latency issues on the account, but definitely the disconnects. Ping stays on about 340ish on the axxess lite.

I only use WA now for wow, most stable of all the accounts. Tested and confirmed by me.

Do you know if all Axxess Packages make use of IS?

How much are you paying though per gig with Web Africa?

Obviously you pay for what you get, R19 a gig is nice but am prepared to pay a bit more for stability considering 25 man raiding will be starting soon in my Guild

Have read some good reviews about G-Connect
 
After endless struggles with telkom and his adsl line with latencies through the roof (4 sec plus) my one friend went over to neotel and since he's had it he been playing with no problems
 
i am on exactly the same package than you... axxess lite and with a 4mbps line directly with telkom... i also get 450-550ms pings all the time

and you know what i am experiencing the exact tame thing, frequent disconnects and BAD lag spikes... that SUCKS!

I do agree WA is the most stable for WoW but they are also the most expensive because they KNOW that are the best so they charge whatever they want... that is CRAZY...

I cancelled my data bundle with axxess, i am going to try our openweb... they offer 4Mbps unshaped and uncapped for R498 per month...
 
for what it's worth, since it has nothing to do with the real topic at hand, but 4mbps uncapped with mweb gives me +-220ms latency (straight, without fancy proxies or ssh or battleping, etc).

they had issues before, but lately it's been very impressive.

your mileage may vary.

R498 though is quite a bit more than my R57 for my unshaped Axxess Lite package

Was having a look at the 5GB including line rental from Web Africa for R499. Cant see though if that is shaped or unshaped? That seems good as I am paying R413 a month to telkom for just ADSL on top of that about R91 for the stupid phone line rental

Axxess has got saix accounts, check their products under your control panel, may only be for local accounts through.

I pay 59 per month for a Home 1 gb account shaped. Topups are 45 bucks. Its expensive but worth it for wow, just dont download on it and it should do you fine. Download off the axxess lite.

With Blizzards now built in Back Ground Downloader while you play its hard to not download game content on that though. Sure if you see the Downloader Running you can kill it but its a shlep keep track of all that and having so swap accounts on ones router all the time

this happened to me for the 1st time last nite. alt-f4'd to get out the game, logged in, and it worked fine for 5 or 10 minutes.

rhetorical question I guess, but when the **** is this country going to start getting it right?
 
yep afrihost,axxess, all IS the uncapped accounts, and some capped.

saix is about R60 a gig.

if you in cpt you can use mweb, as they use sat-3 , will give you 220+, they ask R79 for 3 gig a month

for openweb, go for the gold, then email, mr.beep to move you to the vodacom backbone, then you should play fine :)

never had this problem, probably because i dont play with the Wow shortcut which opens up the downloader first. I just log directly and bypass that downloader. Use it only when I need to update.

Been having the same problem the last few days, exactlly as you described. I am with AXXESS as well :(
