Is anyone else having problems access za.archive.ubuntu.com?

apt reports 404, unable to connect and if I try through a webbrowser, I get the http error
'The following error was encountered:

* Connection to 155.232.137.229 Failed

The system returned:

(111) Connection refused'

by my proxy...

I am still able to ping it and access it via ftp, just not access it via http.

If so, is their an alternative mirror I can use for now?

Maybe you should try http://ftp.leg.uct.ac.za/pub/linux/ubuntu/...
though that is 2Mbps, others are in the range of Gbps. No Ubuntu for SA today.

ta, although an easy workaround is to modify /etc/apt/sources.list and replace http://za.archive.ubuntu.com with ftp://za.archive.ubuntu.com, which is working really fast.

I had the same problem. It usually occurs when you have 2 or more nics in the same box or have more than one ip address assigned to that nic. I have eth0 = 192.168.0.12 and eth1 = 192.168.8.22

When i type apt-get update then it tries to connect on 192.168.8.22 but then it uses 192.168.0.12 to download the files. Mikrotik shows that ubuntu tries port 53(dns) on 192.168.8.22. When i have unpluged the cable then i also get errors when trying to update ubuntu.

Very strange. I asked the people on the ubuntu forum but they not in the mood to answer me.
