ProLiant DL380 G6 Memory Config

HI,

I need some assistance with getting 16GB of PC3-10600R into DUAL Quad-Core server.

Server: ProLiant DL380 G6
Memory Type: 8 X 2GB 500656-B21
CPUs: 2 X E5520 QUAD Core Xeons

I know that somewhere on the horrid HP website there is a memory calculator, but by Zeus's beard I cannot find it.

Anyone can assist?

Hi Akai,

Basically the server has 3 channels with 1 CPU and 6 channels with 2 CPUs. Each channel has 3 slots for a total of 18 slots with 2 CPUs. If you populate 1 slot per channel you can run at 1333 MHz. If you put in one more memory chip in a channel, you run at 1066. One more and you go down to 800 MHz.

The 8 GB DIMMs do not run at 1333 so basically if you want to run at that speed you can only have 24 GB of memory. Here is the table:

Thx for the feedback.

Had a chat with HP this morning anyways. They say that one cannot configure the G6 properly with 16GB. Would either have to have 12GB or 24GB

Doesnt make a difference anyway you'd only get 1066MHz or 5.86 GT/s since you are using E5520's

I eventually have it configured with 16GB at 1066MHz.

CPU1 Banks:

9C

CPU2 Banks:

2D
3A
8F
9C

But yeah, would load with extra 8GB this morning to sit at 24GB
