This is the chat log

Hello, Visitor!

Your chat history:

15:47:32 Thank you for contacting us. An operator will be with you shortly...
15:47:32 Visitor: asus laptop
15:47:39 [Operator Henk Keuris joined the chat]
15:47:44 Henk Keuris: Hi Visitor
15:47:47 Henk Keuris: what can I do for you?
15:48:22 Visitor: hello
15:48:29 Visitor: im looking for the following
15:48:33 Visitor: Asus k52jc-ex184x
15:48:46 Visitor: but your price is way out
15:49:02 Visitor: it normally retails for R7999
15:49:26 Visitor: you have it for R9095
15:49:40 Henk Keuris: R9095.90
15:49:47 Henk Keuris: let me investigate a bit
15:49:50 Henk Keuris: please hold for me
15:49:51 Visitor: yes
15:51:13 Henk Keuris: where do you see that it retails for R7999?
15:51:34 Henk Keuris: because whoever sells it at that price, is making only R12 profit on the laptop
15:51:55 Visitor: www.zones.co.za
15:53:05 Henk Keuris: ok, thanks
15:53:10 Henk Keuris: sorry, I cannot do that price
15:53:21 Visitor: okay
15:53:25 Henk Keuris: the best I can do is R8776.75
15:53:36 Henk Keuris: that's the lowest I can go, I'm afraid
15:53:46 Henk Keuris: here are prices
15:53:46 Henk Keuris: http://www.jump.co.za/search/k52jc-ex184x/
15:53:51 Henk Keuris: zones is incredibly cheap
15:54:01 Henk Keuris: in fact, they're so cheap, I doubt that price is correct
15:54:12 Visitor: ok then it doesn't matter
15:54:23 Henk Keuris: no company in their right mind, would sell a laptop and only make R12 profit, especially if it's a R8000 laptop
15:54:24 Visitor: it is correct ....went there yesterday
15:54:50 Henk Keuris: perhaps they do grey imports?
15:55:05 Henk Keuris: I don't know. I simply cannot believe a company would do that willingly
15:55:16 Henk Keuris: there's only one Asus importer for the Asus laptops
15:55:26 Visitor: no,they are a reputable store in Durban
15:55:33 Henk Keuris: I'm going to contact Asus SA.
15:55:38 Henk Keuris: perhaps they know about this
15:56:23 Visitor: and what use is this to me?
15:56:45 Henk Keuris: unfortunately nothing
15:57:00 Visitor: wow thanks
15:57:01 Henk Keuris: but at least I will know how they manage to get that price, so that I can amend my prices
15:57:13 Henk Keuris: but I cannot match that price.
15:57:15 Henk Keuris: sorry
15:57:32 Visitor: wil you be able to email me the outcome?
15:57:41 Henk Keuris: I can absolutely do so, yes
15:57:45 Henk Keuris: what is your email address?
15:57:57 Visitor: *****@gmail.com
15:58:01 Visitor: Thank you

LOL what a ripoff!

Not really a ripoff. It's pretty well known that Zones often sell way below cost. For the record, you were pretty rude and I wouldn't blame them for not wanting you as a client.

PC Zone does grey importing and has no after sale support. I would be careful when buying stuff from them. A friend of mine bought a gfx card through them and they wouldn't support the warranty on it.

Hmm, don't quite understand the point of this thread. If it's super cheap at Zones, why not just buy it from Zones? I'm pretty sure Henk was being quite honest about their cost on the laptop.

+1
Besides look at the quality of the website. DODGY!

i thought the consultant (henk) offered good customer service, don't see what the problem is other than he couldn't match your price ... if thats the case rather just go to zones ... sorted

zones is reputable last i heard so nothing dodgy there ...

He was honest and wanted to find out how zones got that price. I see nothing wrong in that chat log.

I don't buy that. They get their stuff from the same local distributors everyone else does. They buy a small selection of products/models in bulk at negotiated reduced prices. If you don't believe me ask the likes of Recton etc.

Try getting another pc shop to beat zones price and nobody will come close.

Being hearing about the R12 profit thing from the time zones opened up many, many, many years ago.

sometimes ppl must understand, go buy it for cheaper, but dont expect any support on the product.

I thought it was well known by now that zones do grey imports.

It is very much possible that they do get better pricing as it seems to me they are retail. so yes its likely.

and they selling it at a loss is bullsh**T.
