Prophecy PRICE SHOCKER!!!

Agreed, haven't had problems with Prophecy.

They aren't the cheapest but I always get my stuff, I've done RMAs which went through without a hitch (and they paid for my shipping those times that I did have to RMA). In fact the one time I helped a friend and we ordered some stuff, the PSU didn't work, we RMA'd (shipping paid for by Prophecy), once we'd gotten the new PSU the system refused to run stable and they asked us to send the complete system (I didn't do much testing but my friend suspected motherboard or CPU). Once again they paid for that shipping, turned out the RAM wasn't working, which we didn't even buy from them. Shipped the system back to us (at their cost). Never paid for anything. Not too many retailers around that would do that.
 
So most of you know I'm quite closely affiliated with the owners of PC Zone and I feel I should say something since it's based on facts and not speculation.
PC Zone doesn't sell grey goods. I don't blame any of you for thinking so because I had a very serious conversation with one of the owners when I first came across their prices, insisting their stuff MUST be falling off a truck somewhere.

As numerous forumites have said, PC Zone buy in bulk and are able to negotiate a better price. I've been privy to some of these negotiation conversations and honestly, I almost feel sorry for the suppliers. In general PC Zone stick to a very low markup and rely on high sales volumes to make up their profit margins.

Henk from Prophecy confirmed that PC Zone are getting stock (of their Asus products at least) from the Asus importers - can't exactly be grey if it's all out there for anyone to enquire.

OP, I can completely understand your frustration at seeing a store being so over-priced over another. I too think sometimes that it's a blatant rip-off. But if the store isn't willing to budge, you may as well get the product wherever it's cheaper.
Generally, as a rule of thumb, I don't compare anyone's pricing to PC Zone. Truth is, I have never seen anyone under price them (not on any of the products I've compared anyway)

Why are you comparing grey imports to stolen goods, that is just retarded.
There is nothing wrong with grey imports, actually when you save R5000 compared to the local agents rip-off price, grey imports are frikken fantastic.

I also can't see exactly where the OP was so rude, he was checking on a price, though I find the subject header of the thread a tad miss-leading, it is not really a prophecy price shocker, more of a zone price shocker....

If we are active on live chat (which is most of the days, all day long), you'll see a live chat block on the right in the menu, below your shopping cart and log in buttons. If we're not active, then it's not there. :)

lol if I was Prophecy I'd add like 10% to any order he makes with them in the future :D but I'm just evil and wouldn't care for his business.. Buuut thats why I don't run a store :o

I Agree. It looks like the OP is a bit of a drama queen. He has the nerve to ask why a single company in SA has the cheapest prices and then posts the entire conversation online as if to say he's stumbled upon some kind of conspiracy. Calm down Nancy Drew. It isn't that big of a deal

Im with you on this. Hysterical clients *sigh* They dont know any better though... thats the way I look at it.
 
Not that I agree with the OP but what I do agree on is sometimes clients must understand its not always possible for the dealer to match prices like that especially if the supplier doesint want to give the dealer better pricing, im in retail myself and im struggling when it comes to issues like this as suppliers give no price protection so theres no way one can match this.

But I find it quite amazing how a client wil buy the product over there but come back to you for support on it.

In the UK I worked for Sony in one of their stores and yes, we weren't the cheapest with Sony products but our knowledge about them were second to none. Often we had people come in, having purchased the product across the street at a cheaper price, asking us for support because the other retailer didn't know what they were doing. Unless it was a regular client of ours, we used to just give them the support line's number and that's all they got from us.
Retail really isn't fair sometimes.
