Prophecy PRICE SHOCKER!!!

I agree with the Prophecy consultant. They were prepared to drop the price which is actually very nice to see, but (being a registered reseller myself), I hate it when people want the absolute lowest price on something and the quote prices from these "funky" people who manage to sell stuff at below cost prices. Just because they get their stuff in bulk (or off the truck) doesn't mean I do, so I don't see why I should get taken for a ride by customers who don't spot that something's not normal.

I always get my Middle-eastern clients wanting "special discount" for everything. They have the most money, but complain the most. And they are the worst clients to keep happy. So why would I give them a better price when I am gonna lose more sleep over their stupid crap afterwards. Think I will start adding 5% every time they ask for a discount from now on. Be hardegat, and so will I! Good thing our business is IT...we only sell stuff so that they don't buy crap.

Also, Nims, if one place sells something cheaper, you don't go to someone else and complain if they are more expensive. Either you go for the deal, or you don't. I don't go round to Incredible Corruption and ask to see the manager because they sell a toner cartridge for R900 and my supplier sells it for R500. I just buy it from my supplier instead. It's called choice. Use it.

Yea, i don't see the shocker part here. Prophecy clearly showed they're willing to negotiate the price to a point where they're no longer making desired profit. He's also openly stating their limits and no one can expect a company to sell things at a loss to them [even if the other company somehow does it] . The OP sounds pretty rude considering that PH did offer a lower price....

I wasn't rude to him i just couldn't believe that they were so much more expensive.....Henk was very kind in finding out about zones no doubt about that!
As for the people who think Zones are not good and sell grey imports......Its not true...they buy in Bulk therefore the discount.....
As for their after sales: I had good experience with them. Zones replaced the actual item with no questions asked.
Point is other places shouldn't rip the customers of......although i do agree that their online support is pretty good and quick..

Dear Customer,

I've done some research on this, and found the following:
It seems PC Zone purchases a lot from the importer of Asus laptops. They therefore, get bulk discounts and clearly don't run a huge markup. This explains their good price.

Further more, I'd like to direct you to these two links:
http://www.hellopeter.com/search_results.php?search=Pc+Zone
http://www.hellopeter.com/search_results.php?search=The+Prophecy+Shop

We put in a lot of effort to make sure our customers are happy. In fact, here is a link to a whole category full of items that we are selling at a loss, because we kept customers happy:
http://www.prophecy.co.za/-c-1583.html

I'm not trying to drag PC Zones name through the mud, at all here, but I believe our reputation speaks for itself. And unfortunately, to provide the service that we give, costs money. Therefore, we have to run a little bit higher markup, in order to sustain our service levels.

I hope this helps a bit, and wish you good luck in your purchase decision. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions or queries.

Kind Regards
The Prophecy.co.za Team

so don't bash me for comparing items that are cheaper elsewhere....it makes common sense to buy where it is cheaper......if you know the aftersales service of the company..

IMHO the OP is the shocker here. Prophecy did what the best in the business would have done.

The stuff they sell is not grey, they trade volume. But people still persist with lies wrt them being grey importers. Their service is not great but at least get your facts straight.

This post is not directed at the Prophecy dude but towards some members of this forum.

Thank you!

For what?

:D lol

I still dont see the whole point in this beside what every one already knows?!
Zones = cheap goods due to bulk buying + shoddy service levels (below average)
Prophecy= more pricey + good service?

I still buy from prophecy cause I know if something fails they'll get it replaced in no time.
Yet I also shop around for the best deals. You gotto make a trade off and decide what is more important to you...

Some companies sell things like laptops at cost then mark up the accessories. It's called having a loss leader. Pull customers in with a bargain and then get them to buy other stuff at inflated margins. Computer shops all over the world do it to great effect. Doesn't mean they are dodgy. South African companies generally just put obscene markups on everything.

Visitor comes across as a sarcastic lame prick. Salesman ftw.

Not really a ripoff. It's pretty well known that Zones often sell way below cost. For the record, you were pretty rude and I wouldn't blame them for not wanting you as a client.

+1.

And to the OP you should be having a lot more "wow thanks" conversations with just about every other retailer in the country seeing as no one can usually match zones on the stuff they do stock.

Aha, ITs a dog-byte-dog world lol ;)
