How many of you guys would buy from prophecy but don't because they do not accept credit cards?

Do you think they lose a lot of sales because of this? I know today they lost my business and i was thinking surely they must lose major business over this. They also only have one bank account with fnb so you need to go into a bank to make a deposit. Another off putting thing i thought.

subject CC payment system offline?
mailed-by prophecy.co.za

Hi x

Unfortunately our CC system will be down for the next week at least,
as we need to sort out a few gremlins in the system, and sort out some
procedures for CC orders with our couriers.

I apologise for the inconvenience, we know that this is a hassle and
are working on it

Regards

So in short yes, they lost out on some business of mine before.

Why do you need to do that? I just pay with online banking from my Absa account, don't you get online banking with a credit card too?

Well I ordered a laptop from them last week Wednesday and it arrived speedily. I just did an EFT over the net, no need to go to the bank (unless your bank doesn't have internet banking, in which case you should move to another bank.)

A while back I urgently needed a cpu cooler while I was in the sticks but they did not take CC so I ended up buying elsewhere.

I don't like not being able to us my card. Ebucks and all that. A few online merchants lose my business because they don't take cards.

The CC option has been asked numerous times. Firestar said that he will make a Blog post regarding why they won't accept CC payments (see here), but he never had time to do so :(

My guess would be that they get a smaller cut if you pay via CC, so they either have to ask more or stick with EFT's.

Initially my payments from ABSA to Prophecy's FNB account took at least 1.5 days, but now that I'm a "trusted" user they start with my order almost immediately - see here :D.

Prophecy have excellent service and I have no problem with the fact they have no CC option. I just use eft.

i just recently made a purchase from them this week. Fast service, i must admit, but i did eft.

As far as I know the interbank transfer cutoff time is 16:00, so if you do an EFT before 16:00 it will reflect at the start of the next working day. So it adds at most a day(or weekend if they stay open) to the total time taken.

I think the cut-off time is 15:30.
If you do the transfer before that, then the amount should be reflected in their account after midnight.
If you transfer after that, then the amount would only be reflected at midnight the day after - which is why I said 1.5 days, since I mostly do my orders after 5h.

Yea but it is does not reflect straight away, i never asked if the money needs to reflect first though but i would imagine it does. It's not so much that i cannot do a transfer but i need to go in and mission and setup beneficiaries and blah blah.

I just find it interesting that a really big well known store like prophecy does not make use of a credit card system and only has one bank account meaning if you need stuff urgently you would need to make a direct deposit if you are not with fnb.

I pay by EFT at most of the local PC hardware places that I buy from, so missing a CC option isn't a deterrent at all for me

I do an EFT from my CC account :P

I must say now that I have had to deal with some of the other online stores there are definately some better systems but thiers does work and they are down the road from me, so I save on delivery and get it faster.

In other cases I would say no cc no business because if you do an eft and they dont send the stuff, you have no recourse. IF you pay by cc however you can lodge a complaint with the bank, they investigate and can take your money out of their account and refund you.
However, Prophecy have a good track record, an if I ever needed something from them I would not hesitate to do an eft.

I used to buy things from them regularly but having to goto the bank and do a transfer was a pain. Then when they stopped responding to emails, claiming it was for customers convenience, and suggested using some silly program or something to contact them I laughed and stopped using them. I only get something from them now if I have to have it now and they're the only place selling it, even then I sigh because their delivery is almost double Take2 for example, which is actually free right now.

On orders of R350 or more, they should make this year round thing, aside the price that is one of the most appealing things about kalahari.net

That's the first time I've heard of this.

I usually get a speedy answer when using either E-mail, Prophecy Forums or Live Chat.

Why don't you just use Internet Banking, instead of going to the actual bank?

Pada different banks take time. Sometimes if a client does a transfer it can take 3 days for it to reflect in our account, so if you want it to reflect straight away you would need to go into an fnb bank and deposit cash.

Anyways this not a thread about their service :D.

Good ol corex let me use my credit card, granted i had to sit in like an hour traffic at alandale . They charged me 2% extra to use it which is not that bad, better than pcint that charge 5%.

Tbh, I wouldn't ever buy from prophecy, there are far cheaper alternatives with similar quality of support.
