Hi folks

We are considering a forum change (nothing major) where we will combine certain quiet forums and make the full board more compact. Here is the basic idea:

MYADSL FORUMS

Latest Happenings
--Announcements
--News Discussion
--Consumerism and Deregulations
--Links

ADSL Discussions
--General & Technical ADSL Discussions
--ADSL ISP’s

Other Broadband Providers
--Sentech MyWireless
--WBS iBurst
--Vodacom
--MTN
--CellC
--WiFi & Wisp

Other Internet Related Discussions
--General Broadband Discussions (WiMax in here)
--ISDN & Dial-up
--VOIP
--Internet Security

General Discussions
--Gaming
--Hardware and Software
--Off Topic: News
--Off-Topic: Other

Please give your views and suggestions on the new proposed changes. The basic idea is to make the board easier to use…any feedback will be great. After your feedback we will published a revised version…just like the DOC & ICASA :D

Regards,

RPM

Seems like a change without really being one... :) It will definatly make the forum easier to navigate ect, but personally i think that you should make/get hold of a skin for the forum

Probably news not relating to broadband/adsl/telecomms

Seems ok.
What'll happen to existing 'news' focused threads? Does one need to start backing up existing info - or will relevant currently existing news-focused threads get auto-ported into the - for instance 'OT News' forum section?

We will move all relevant threads into the new section.

ok, thanks for the info. Heh, watch the forum (in offtopic), begin to divide between the 'hey checkout this cute video' people and the 'the end is nigh' people :)

:)

You are on my watch list. ;) I have a red emergency light and alarm that goes off every time you post LG! :D it sounds like those raid sirens used in WWII... Sure fire way to scare the **** out of the neighbours! Hehehe!

Perhaps a spam/scams as subforum to Internet Security?

I welcome the "bad news" posts being seperate from off topic: other

As long as Lonegunman is happy, I am happy. :D

Just something i encountered a few times being a Vodacom AND MTN user. There is alot of threads and discussion applicable to Voda+MTN+Cell C which end up
in a random section [in one of the 3] and gets missed easily if you only use 1 "service provider". Simple example : 3G Cellphones..i see Nokia 6680 discussions flow all over the place because there doesn't seem to be quite a right place to put it [i.e. you are a MTN user but everyone with 6680 phones are in the Vodacom section]...

Imho, these things are converging so quickly, i'm not even sure it makes sense to seperate them per provider [as this list is surely going to grow?]. It's like seperating ADSL ISP providers in speratate sections. I would rather want to see something like what was done with ADSL

i.e.

[GENERAL WIRELESS [3G-EDGE-GPRS-HSDPA]
[WIRELESS ISPs [VODA-MTN-CELLC] ].

Whether ISP section breaks further up into every single provider is debatable i guess.

Anyway it's evident that "other providers" basically are wireless providers. I'd say wireless is widespread enough that it can come out of the "other" section and get an equivalent of the ADSL section?

From there "other broadband" i'd just make "general broadband" .

ie.

As for iBurst/Sentech ...they technically fall under all the same stuff ....i don't know the activity in all of the sections, last time i looked into IBurst they were b*tching up a storm [for the last year+ still] ...maybe those goes need to see there is other providers too? ;)
Technically the same stuff ? I don't think so :) Hope you weren't implying a merge of the two.

Edited my post when you replied. No, see my post again ;) I was referring to a "wireless" section as a opposed to a "we-don't-know-what-this-is-so-we jsut-dump-everyone-into-OTHER-using-whatever-label-identifies-them-best ". Last i checked Sentech and Ibust both fall under some sort of wireless [CDMA or whatever] tech .

To put it this way, as a newbie looking for an internet solution what will i look for first? "Iburst" or "Wireless Internet" ? Will i even know if Iburst is wireless [especially if it's called "other" ] ?

As offtopic seems to be my only real "participation" area (now I'm not involved with SA broadband), my only concern would be that splitting into two areas may be difficult for the mods to handle ?

Or would it make it easier ?

Perhaps the description "news" is too broad, or should be embellished somewhat ?

News, Views and Politics ?

I'm not sure how other people use the forums, but I always head directly for "new posts" when I login and that's pretty much all I use, unless I'm looking for specific things.

That's why I'm wondering whether two sections for Offtopic may be overkill ?

While we're on the issue of consolidating - put gaming into the Hardware/Software section ?

"Hardware, Software & Gaming"

I agree with proposal. I do think however that off topic is too broad and developes a lot on interest on matters that have absolutely nothing to do with broadband/adsl, although they can be very interesting!

Think about merging iBurst General and iBurst Technical

Alternatively re-classifying subsections: 1) Problems with WBS, 2) iBurst

IMO we need to enlighten newbies & guests as to how to Google this site for answers/solutions/info, which would reduce frustration levels with forumites not answering each other's questions where there are several existing threads covering the same subject...
Or jack up vbulletin.
