I went through this nearly two years ago, ended up getting brachytherapy a year past April and my PSA scores have plummeted since. Now it’s not even on my mind although peeing is still a bit odd.

I'm no expert in this. My father had gone through radiation and the whole sh*t years before and he was good. Very active and all that. He first went through the radiation early 2005 I think-not sure but didn't think much about it but hey....Appeared again 2020. Went through same treatment with some added steps. In that time it was fine but it started swelling again. He had a great Dr. Medical aid was talking sh*t. It wasn't like it wasn't being monitored. But suddenly sh*t changed. Opening and scraping of the pipes for lack of a better word. Yay! We've passed a milestone but no. Now it's catheters and x-rays and and and. Long story long. It ended with just managing his pain. That fcked me up. Watching my idol my motivation not being able to be his active self. Having to pick him up just to what we consider a normal part of our lives. He hated every part of not being able to do for himself.

I know this is not great to hear. It doesn't mean stop caring but it doesn't mean you must stop giving the care and attention to your pops. He'll tell you when he's ready to go. That's just my peace.

At first you all of a sudden need a pee and you HAVE to go, like immediately. You also have a good few pees in the night and then the pills (Silodosin) you take help to settle things down and after a couple of months things normalise. I was on those pills for a year and stopped in April. That regressed things a bit as the pills really helped, and now it’s not so easy to empty your bladder and it hurts a tad and takes a bit longer. Basically I reckon I stopped the pills a bit too early but it’s not such a big deal and you get used to it.

But hang in there bud, it’s pretty straight sailing and generally nowhere near as serious as other types of cancer if they catch it early, as they did with me and as you say they did for you. Sitting here today it’s actually a bit weird to think of the stresses and strains I and the family went though thinking “what if”, when the reality is it was like having a sore leg and having an op to fix it.

The word is a bastard to say and it took me a while to get my head round it, but I also made a thread here after a while to do as you are doing and informing people to get checked and catch it early. It is very common but it is very treatable, so yeah, spreading the word is super important. Good for you for facing it head on, but I can confidently say you’ll be okay mate.

My brother in law is now 74 and had the radio active treatment around 2019.

Never looked back, his annual checks are still clear.
 
Has anyone done a prostate screening through Discovery? How did you go about it? I can only see they cover a PSA Test, but Googling that it looks like a self test that doesn't cost much.

I did. Either doc or Dischem clinic. The PSA test counted as prostrate screening.
