Protea Squad for 1st Pro20

But that would not have been the South African way. That would have meant deviating from The Plan. And The Plan, Smith explained, had always been for Morkel to bat in the batting Powerplay, to be taken around the 42nd over.

Very good article and pin point accurate.

But we will never know if a more radical approach to the chase would have made a difference, because the South Africans would rather die wondering than depart from the familiar.

bwhahahahahah

It's just been so frustrating watching them play lately. I mean Albie's bowling has been ****e for aeons and he's actually helped save us on many occasions with the bat (when he comes out earlier). I'm so sick of seeing Boucher come out before him, it's as if the coaching staff are always trying to justify his position in the team.
Surely if everyone else in the world can see the obvious, why can't the players or the management?

The team:
Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Loots Bosman, 3 AB de Villiers, 4 JP Duminy, 5 Albie Morkel, 6 Mark Boucher (wk), 7 Ryan McLaren, 8 Roelof van der Merwe, 9 Johan Botha, 10 Dale Steyn, 11 Charl Langeveldt

So we're playing 2 spinners and Tsotsobe misses out. I'm guessing this is different from the usual Wanderer's pitch then. Tbh I'd rather Botha drop out as I don't rate him, but I understand his inclusion.

lol,2 runs short D/L.The way Ab was looking at the sheet,i thought they wud at least try stay ahead.

They got to worried about the d/l :(.

So worried and they still never made the total.

O well luckily with our weather these storms do not hang around for more than 20-30 minutes.

How long til they call it off?

AB looked a bit confused by the sheet
Making me remember 2003 WC at Kingsmead vs SL

30 mins before they start deducting overs, after that an over every 4 mins. So with 7 overs left we looking at an hour

Check cricinfo, keep u updated on the weather.

"And now it really is bucketing down! The covers are coming on, and dare one say it, South Africa might just have produced another Duckworth-Lewis cock-up ... plenty time for the weather to change of course, but de Villiers and Morkel only went after singles in that over. One big hit would have put them clear"

This Duckworth Lewis is a load of crap! Well not the actual calculations but the way the umpires play it.

SA were ahead after the 12th over during which the rain started falling. The umpires decide to stay out for one more over. After the 13th SA are behind the D/L par, it is still raining, and the umpires THEN decide to go off!

Yeah, wish it was possible to have retractable roof.Would that be possible with teh size of a cricket stadium?

Ummm it was barely raining lance.

We need 8 runs lance, hardly a difficult task. Let's not blame the umpires. They should have gone for it and tried to hit a boundary upfront.

WTF is up with morkel not being to run between the wickets? He cannot bowl he cannot run between wickets. I dunno i am starting to think we should look for a new kluesener

:(
9pm There is lightning lurking around the ground, which doesn't bode well for a resumption. But the umpires are in the middle, having a look, and chatting to the groundsmen

ah much better

9.05pm Well well, I think we've got something resembling good news. The covers are coming off and the SuperSoppers are going to work. Can they get on before the rain returns?

There you go... what exactly is raining, barely raining, pouring? Surely rain is rain. Funny the ground staff seemed to think it was raining during the 12th over... so i am not alone with my thinking Killa!

Collingwood was having a nice chat to the umpires after the 12th over. Clearly encouraging them to stay out.

Oh, and of course there is also this :

11.6 Swann to Morkel, no run, nurdled straight to midwicket, and it is getting properly damp now. We might have a problem

It's raining harder now, and that was a timely blow, as it takes South Africa ahead on D/L

11.5 Swann to Morkel, SIX, spoke too soon, a low full-toss, and that is swatted into the stands
