Protesters burn down clinic

Who are the individuals who get these crowds together and urge them to violence and vandalism.

I have noticed that when footage of these 'riot' crowds are shown, it often seems to be youngsters and loose canons.

These ringleaders must be identified, named and shamed and be held accountable: damaging of government & private property is unlawful and should not be tolerated at all.

Protesting bad service delivery is legal and acceptable as people have the right to be dissatisfied with government, but it does not include the right to destroy vital infrastructure - those who resort to this type of destruction are enemies of the people and this fact should be made very clear to communities.

Using children in riot crowds (usually young boys) is pathetic and these orchestrators must be taken to task for criminal action and child abuse.

I want to know who the ringleaders are and which political party they associate themselves with.

The minister herself is fed-up this, and I can bet you a bunny that by next year, the police are going to be clamping down on this - hard. (the end of the world cup will also herald the end of the ANC's honeymoon relationship with these people)

She said while communities had a right to protest, the destruction of public property was unacceptable.

"Destruction of State property such as clinics and multipurpose centres cannot be regarded as a form of protest, but an act of criminality as this has the potential to deny residents their right to access health services and other essential needs," she said in a statement.

Affordable power? Not anymore john. First we get told they cannot supply us so we all drop our usage then we are told they are going to charge more because we are not using enough.

No dude something is very wrong. Now it is expensive.

You kidding me. The roads and infrastructure are getting worse. People - READ POOR BLACKS - and I have many friends among them - are fed up with the state of government clinics and sick of AIDS denialism. The best clinics BTW are in DA controlled Western Cape and that's why thousands of people from EC travel here regularly because they get rubbish treatment over there. The roads are deplorable. The aiport in Cape Town is a mess - it is a tiny airport for a city the size of Cape Town - parking there is a disaster - who designed it?

Aids denialism ? Is this joker for real ?

Peter , peter , peter. We are one of the only country in the world who gives away free anti retrovirals ?Where did you manage to find Aids denial in that ?

Who designed the airport in Cape Town ? Certainly not the A.N freaking C ! And there's been lots of work done on it ! Been to JHB or Durban airports recently ? P.E also been redone. You're so , so , so , so out of touch ! I'm talking about South Africa today and you're stuck in some time warp !

Roads and infrastructure getting worse ? I live in the backwaters and every single road has been redone in the past 5 years. Ask the people in JHB ior cape towm about the new road infrastructure that is being done. And while you at it ask them about the rejuvination of the CBD or the Durban beach front and the constant masses of developments going on everywhere. Peter admit it please...you haven't got the first clue about what's really going on in south Africa !

So we pay less for power than most of the world instead of all of the world. Such a terrible price to pay for giving 805 of our people the ability to have lights on at night and not have to go fetch sticks to cook their food ? I can't for the life of me for a second feel any kinship with anyone whop would find this something to get angry about ! Could things have been handled slightly better ? Sure...in a perfect world where Eskom has some Utopian passing of the baton in a totally smooth manner. But the worlds not perfect. So everything considered we all still have affordable reliable power and the sky is not falling. But you're so ****ing intolerant !

I don't get this about some of you who are less than kind about the abilities of black people. You ensure us they have none then you hold them to near impossible standards !

No any more. We're on the verge of soon having the most expensive electricity in the world. Wow John, you post like it's 1996.

And once again you're just being racist, we have nothing against nor are we judging black, it is the ANC that we have no faith in. See past skin colour, dude, it's not cool.

Strangely enough its the area with more roads that are a problem. When you have one main road it's easy.

I live in Joburg and it has taken 15 years to get the JRA to even look at the road I live on which instead of the 100 cars it's supposed to accommodate now has 10 000 users from all walks of life. The only thing being redone is the highway, which is going to be tolled to recuperate losses! So, if that is the case, where is the money really going to.

You live in the "backwaters" - I don't pretend to know what goes on in your dorp, don't pretend to know what goes on in my city!

So we pay less for power than most of the world instead of all of the world.
We also earn less and in countries where power is expensive, you have the option of natural gas - piped to your house so you only really use electricity to power your lights and a few appliances. Try that in SA.

You are making major logic errors probably based on paranoia and a belief that your view is the only correct one. Disapproving of inefficiency does not mean I am opposed to helping the poor. I am for helping the poor but am against inefficiency, corruption and helping the (new) elites help themselves. These people don't care about their own. I've lived under such a system before where the rulers spoke about helping the workers, miners, farmers and 'people' but instead they covered up corruption, inefficiency, self enrichment and destroyed what was good and original or efficient - efficiency had to be cut down because it was counter-revolutionary.

Could things have been handled slightly better ?
Much better.

If SA did not have the high commodity prices and great apartheid infrastructure we'd be in Somalia now- with the kind of governing skills the ANC has shown.

Intolerant? You're the one here attacking everyone who disagrees with your POV and accuses them of racism. What have you done on a personal scale to help blacks?
Do you work among them? Have you provided them with best class medical care? Don't project your own feelings on others.

I don't get this about some of you who are less than kind about the abilities of black people. You ensure us they have none then you hold them to near impossible standards !

Less than kind about the abilities of the ANC. Stop being a racist yourself and assuming we (ANC critics) are such.

Phak dude the highways are insane dude, i could carry on about the potholes in my road but OMG driving on the highway is going to be a pleasure when they are done. With no work being done they are already a pleasure.

We need to invent some sort of pothole awareness for cars, would make an absolute mint in this country :D.

John this racism thing you always pull is getting old, do you have white guilt or something?

In another thread you mentioned it John. It's there - I even bolded it for you.

Oh it will be, of course we'll all be using the back roads (which are in a state of disrepair) though because paying an extra 2k a month to drive to Pretoria and back isn't in the family budget. Personally I only using the highway once a week between 7pm and 11pm, so I get the full benefit. But as a daily user on a toll road, sorry hey.

EDIT: and they are finally redoing Bellairs drive, but it is in such a state of disrepair that it could not be saved. The entire street is being removed and replaced (much cheaper than annual maintenance, I'm sure :/ )

Well those that earn the least don't pay for one. And by the way you might not know it but the average middle classed South African wage give our cost of living puts us near the top of the list for quality of life. You can find cheaper countries than South Africa but the average wage is generally far less. You can find countries with better average wages but the cost of living is far higher. No, no ...we can be very satisfied with our performance there.

where you this outspoken and upset when we did nothing for the poor as during apartheid ? Honest answer please.

If SA did not have the high commodity prices and great apartheid infrastructure we'd be in Somalia now- with the kind of governing skills the ANC has shown.

Mining as a portion of GDP is at record lows. Despite that our economy has never performed better than the past 10 years in our history.

I don't actually care if anyone is racist. I more get annoyed that they are histrionic and insincere. Their critique is not constructive and not sophisticated and does not provide context. If I got the slightest sense they were interested in solutions I would not even respond. I offer racism as the real motive for their behaviour because I have a distaste for dishonest mean spirited people who strive to actively wish failure on others. I don't actually have anything emotionally invested in who or what anyone else likes or hates except for when it affects me. People are dumb and I seldomly bother worrying about their penchants. But I live in this country and if all your actions are doing is trying to pee on our parade without any effort to offer anything positive I see no use for you here.

I do work among blacks by the way. My business is in the middle of a rural township. I am very much involved in the community and know almost all of the 3000 people who live here on a first name basis. I run a soup kitchen in association with the local school and sit on a council with the local police. I know all the problems and pains of my community. I also know all the improvements. Where once were tin and wood shacks are now brick houses with electricity, running water, street lights, garbage collection , a municipal hall, a clinic , a cresh , a bus stop, an ambulance service, a double the size police force, a sports field and a sports club. I sponsor the local soccer and rugby teams and often attend their games. I run computer classes and offer a free internet and fax service to various techno inclined black kids I took under my wing who like to build up pc's. Yes, Peter I'm quite in touch with the aspirations and trouble of my countrymen. Your turn Peter.

less than kind about the abilities of the ANC. Stop being a racist yourself and assuming we (ANC critics) are such.

Maybe some of you but you're the minority. And stop insulting our intelligence with this "Most of us just don't like the A.N.C as a political party ! It's nothing about the fact they're a black party !" carp please.

a person against apartheid but votes for a party that person is accusing supporting apartheid.......

how funny it is ... :D

Oh man shut up. That's just silly to compare the D.A of today to the D.P of yester-year and I never attempted to do that.

I travel to jhb often and you know what's amazing ? I never needed a 4x4 once ! Nope, never encountered a piece of road ever that I was not very easily without any problem at all able to drive over with my run of the mill, middle of the road sedan without even taking any form of precaution or damaging my car. But by the sounds of your post I'm making that all up.I mean so sound really angry so the situation must really be terrible and unlivable ! JHB roads are actually like the surface of the moon !

Drama queen.

South Africa has very good roads. Compared just about anywhere.

Go take a drive in Russia or Eastern Europe or anywhere in Asia other than Japan away from the major highways. That'll set you straight. I obviously don't need to mention Africa or South America. In fact I bet other than some of western Europe we're right at the top of the pile for having excellent roads. All thanks to our huge public works program.
