JOHANNESBURG – Some Alexandra residents at the Marlboro Community Centre are refusing to allow a planned meeting between Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba and the community to go ahead.

'Let's talk about Marikana' - Mashaba responds to Ramaphosa after unsuccessful Alex meeting

Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba has lashed out at President Cyril Ramaphosa, saying that if the president knows how to act fast, he should have done so during the Marikana tragedy.

"I'd like to engage him on Marikana, and then him [Ramaphosa] and I could talk about public engagements because Marikana is still there," Mashaba said.

The mayor was speaking at a media briefing after he was prevented by angry Alexandra residents from addressing an Independent Development Plan (IDP) session at the Marlboro Community Centre on Monday.

Ramaphosa visited Alexandra last Thursday, where he told residents that he had formed an inter-governmental team to meet Mashaba and iron out a plan to solve service delivery challenges in the area.

Alex protest convenor: Mashaba must apologise for calling residents drunk

JOHANNESBURG - The Alexandra Total Shutdown Movement said on Tuesday Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba made a grave by criticising residents on social media and claiming that they were drunk.
Mashaba went to the township on Monday night, two weeks after protests began over a lack of service delivery.
He received a hostile reception and was booed by the residents, who also tore up copies of a plan he was meant to present.
Alexandra protest convenor Sandile Mavundla said that the mayor was supposed to apologise first before he started addressing them.
"He was supposed to retract all those statements and apologise publically, that 'guys, I've made mistakes'. I'm not a drinker, I don't even know the taste of alcohol, it's not like it was unruly...if you disrespect people, why do you want people to respect you?"
Mavundla said despite the latest developments, they still wanted to hear what Mashaba has to say.

Mashaba sticks to his ANC 'dirty tricks' stance after Alex residents vent frustration

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says he regrets the manner in which Alexandra residents have been "hijacked for political purposes".

The mayor finally visited the troubled township – almost two weeks after residents started protesting over several service delivery issues, including housing, sanitation and the illegal occupation of land.

But, when they gathered in Marlboro Community Hall on Monday evening, Mashaba was heckled and the crowd started shouting, drowning out his words.

Residents were angry that Mashaba didn't meet them in the heart of the township, but rather in nearby Marlboro.

Mashaba digs up ‘dirt’ on ‘ringleaders’ of Alexandra protests

The Johannesburg mayor feels it’s no coincidence that some of those at the forefront of the shutdown will be losing a contract in the township soon.

In a statement on Wednesday morning, Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba has accused two of the frontline organisers of ongoing protest action in the township of Alexandra of undermining him in an attempt to derail efforts to investigate and make them accountable for questionable former deals with the city.
He and his party, the DA, have accused the ANC of having hijacked the “legitimate grievances” of Alexandra residents in an attempt to both influence the upcoming election and otherwise advance ANC interests.
Mashaba has repeatedly raised critical questions about how funds that were meant to be invested in Alexandra through the Alexandra Renewal Project (ARP) were used or misused by the previous ANC administration.

Herman Mashaba claims #AlexShutdown was 'hijacked' by disgruntled contractors

Raphadu denied his involvement as an "instigator" of the protests, or that he received money as alleged by Mashaba.

"The mayor is looking for blame where he can find it and unfortunately not trying to deal with the issues in Alex," Raphadu told News24.

I never received any money

"For starters, I never received R161 000. When I became a councillor in 2016, I resigned as a director [of Ditlodi Community Development Cooperative].

"I am not a ringleader of anything. I am a ward councillor. The people that elected me to office are the ones raising these issues. As a responsible leader, I am [siding] with my community, who are my bosses."

Raphadu said he has had no contact with Mavundla since he resigned as a director of Ditlodi.

Mavundla confirmed to Times Live that he was a director of the Ditlodi Community Development Cooperative, but said Mashaba's statements were a "fabrication".

"The contract is still on, so his statements are baseless. I am residing in Alex and when there are issues that concern Alex people, I am a leader of my own right in Alex and not Ditlodi.

"There is only one individual on Ditlodi that is administrated on the shutdown and it is not the total of Ditlodi (sic)," he reportedly said

The mind boggles that people still fall for the CR cool aid.
 
Wall Alexander off. Toss in a 10megaton nuke. Move bulldozers in the next day to scrape the ash off of the bedrock and turn it into race track or theme park.

It was a coordinated effort to humiliate those governments no longer run by the ANC. How else do you explain how Ekurhuleni is miraculously free of these #ShutDown Movements, or how ANC branded vehicles are delivering tyres to areas of protest?

As usual, ANC politics also have a hidden agenda:
It has nothing to do with the genuine needs of the people of Alexandra, but the extent to which the ARP has funded politically connected people at the expense of service delivery.
