Unless you've got a medical condition...start exercising. Your mind and brain are part of a larger system that requires proper maintenance. A 10 minute run around the block isn't much of a sacrifice and it'll get your blood flowing and air into your lungs. You don't need to join a gym to exercise and get healthier.
Meditation I keep it simple & focus on the breath and observe thoughts arising. Sometimes people say "I can't quiet my mind", and that's not neccessarily the point of meditation. If you can pay attention to the contents of your mind and observe a thought as it arises, or even if you catch yourself immersed in a thought 3 minutes later - you should be glad of having paid attention enough to catch yourself lost in thought. At that point just return your attention to the breath and keep your attention there. Thoughts will arise and you will get lost in them. Notice them and return to the breath. Do it for 5 or 10 minutes sitting comfortably, and also during the day. You'll begin to see how noisy the mind is by default and you can start to choose which thoughts to invest your time in or not.
