Proxy Service: Which is best for Wintergrasp?

Currently on Gamemax and I always disconnect in WG when I'm fighting in the fortress.

Any alternatives that work?

Pingfu, Smoothping, Your-Freedom?

Ok I cant comment on the other proxy services, but I am using a private box based in London... also I dont tunnel my wow via HTTP like some proxy services. I use SSL / SSH - sockscap.

The DC's are very random and it doesnt happen to everyone, it's very much hardware dependant. From my personal reading up its very much got to do with how your client reacts when it gets massive bursts of data coming in.
The lower spec / junky onboard NIC's like the marvell NIC's are most renowed for causing DC's, most likely due to poor buffering abilities. Certain NVidia onboard network controllers also do it... however there are workarounds to minimize it. Also outdated driver versions are highly suspect. I can find the link somewhere if you really want.

Disabling the combat log / addons that sync with other players also helps. Keep in mind that Wintergrasp is really a badly coded area in the game... the amount of data that gets exchanged between you and server side, is absolute chaos... your combat log literally explodes with data from damage data going on around you.

Your FPS in mid battle due to spell detail cripples your CPU / GPU... at the same time, your gaming client is waiting for cpu time to process all the incoming network data... so wintergrasp is a pretty bad area to minimize DC's. I dont have problems with DC's but it was no easy job getting it stabilized. Fortunately the NIC I invested in, helps a lot with finetuning incoming / outgoing data.

But lets wait and hear if any other guys using proxies have better luck with their providers. :)


EDIT - And also ensure you have applied the registry Patch !!!!!

The proxy you are using Pornolio, available to others as well? and at what cost?
I am really getting annoyed with my current connection still giving me 450-500ms. I just hate doing any battle grounds with that latency.
I wish Webafrica can sort out their lines, or who ever is to blame for the horrible connection latencies
 
Heya Werries...

The proxy I am using is a friends box based in london, so we are in the process of testing the latencies + finetuning it ourselves, maybe we might offer it later as a service later, who knows. Latencies differ greatly depending on where you are located in the country.

To give you an idea... Guys in JHB area going through same ISP as me, can play at a sustained stable 232 Ms... where I only stay on 280 / 290ms. The biggest difference is the amount of copper you hit before you hit the fibre backbone.

Webafrica support has been HORRENDOUS this weekend. Sunday whole day Verizon was pretty much non accessible. Kept getting authentication failures. I checked their website, no problems, no outages, all is hunkey dorey. Monday morning same thing... by then I phoned WA support. The conversation went something in this line :

Me : Is there any problems with your auth servers / adsl network ??
WA HD agent : No nothing all is working perfectly sir.
Me : Are you 100% sure ?
WA agent : Yes sir all is working.
Me : Ok thats strange, because I cannot authenticate with ADSL on verizon.
WA Agent : Oh thats because its down sir.
Me : FFS you just told me twice there is NO problems
WA Agent : Oh I am sorry, I thought you were referring to normal ADSL.
Me : ??? **sigh**, so how come there is nothing posted on your website under notifications for 2 days now ??? You know its broken, I know its broken, all your other subscribers that use it knows its broken, how come you dont put a notice up ???
WA agent : Oh we are still waiting for confirmation from Verizon if there is a problem.
Me : OMG, you tested it, you know its broken, I am telling you its broken, how much more confirmation do you need ???
WA agent **silence**

Yes, Web Africa support is going down the toilet so I agree with you there Werries....
 
Indeed, I tried this weekend for a short while using my Mother's telkom connection and I got way lower pings than on my WA account. I think it is time to shop around again...

Odd, my Verizon was perfectly fine this weekend had no issues. But latencies are still in there 400's they have not settled down yet.

as for proxies i would steer clear of smoothping, its free, which means gold farmers are most likely using it, which heightens the risk of account banning.

As soon as you switched to SAIX or any other ISP, and then tried switching back with .v behind your username you would see authentication failures.

Was whole sunday, I even spoke to a fellow guildy based in JHB area and he also got auth failures on Sunday... Monday morning it was still off, and around mid day it got resolved. We both ended up raiding on Saix.

i actually switched my accounts a few time to saix and verizon and it was fine:P and i even changed to my shaped account and then back, still no hassles
 
Very weird... that would mean not all regions were affected. Myself in CT and my fellow guildy in JHB both could not authenticate. Just changed the .v to a .s and it would log in fine.

but i must agree, webafrica support has gone to the dogs, they always want to blame my telephone line and then blame my sync margins. Even when i have told them that my line is fine, i give them traceroutes to hell and back and they turn around and tell me that "500ms" is normal for unshaped accounts.. i was like sweet jesus give me someone with half a brain.
 
Webafrica are a bunch of clowns. Ill never use them again. In a matter of 2weeks they f'd up my billing. Where in 3 years I have never had billing issues with Axxess or even Telkom...Bunch of clowns I tell you.
