Ok please please please Don't turn this into a Console flame war(Ok you can but only after I get a answer:p)

Remember when the PS3 was being developed, where sony had these huge development costs due to it having Superior processing power due to Parrralel cell processing capabilities and all that Jazz.

So now with quiet a few of the same titles being released on both consoles, we know that the PS3 is not that far superior to the Xbox360 with regards to Graphics with them being on par with each other.

Now the real question is-Does the Ps3 really have superior Hardware to the xBox360?
Do these games have such similar graphics due to hardware similarities or limitations in game development techniques the PS3 has.Could it be that the ps3 developers or not using the hardware to its full potential.

Cause I will be purchasing one soon, mostly just for Fighting (Soul Caliber and DOA )titles as a social event when mates are over(my personal gaming will always be online in MMO's on the pc)

I'm purely interested in which console will actually surpass the other's lifespan and least need an upgrade in the next 3-5 years.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=142025 - it's actually inferior, or at best, on par.

So to answer your question, the only thing superior that the PS3 has going for it is the BD drive, which at the moment offers no advantage in terms of gaming (especially for fighting games, which seems to be your focus). Soul Caliber and DOA are available on the Xbox too.

If you absolutely have to have a BD drive, then go ahead and get a PS3. Other than movies, it's not going to affect your gaming experience much unless you enjoy games that consist 75% of cut scenes.

Ok, now that that you got a 'answer' from a 360 fanboi, let me show you a little list that will help you understand more about the cell...

SOCOM Confrontation
LittleBigPlanet
Motorstorm 2
Resistance 2
Naruto
Fat Princess (9 out of 10 - day one for me)
Wipe Out HD
WhiteKnight Chronicles
HOME

In 2009
Killzone 2
Infamous
Ico game
Gran Turismo 5
MAG
Heavy Rain
God of war 3
Uncharted 2
FF Versus 13
Quantum Theory
Liverpool Studios Project
London Studio Project

Oh and for a 360 exclusive racing 'sim' that was inspired by Gran Turismo 3, view my sig...

Let me go with Phenomenal Cosmic Cell Processor, ITTY BITTY little bus and GPU.

I must admit it looks like the work of amateurs, the cell processor can't be used to its full capacity because Sony forgot to actually upgrade the rest of the console

Its Sony's attention to detail that impresses me most!

/me loves 2.5D to, can't your GPU handle full 3D?

EDIT: oh and the rest of the list with maybe the exception of God of War and maybe GT5 looks like a load of ****.

And ^^^ this ^^^ would be the answer from the ps3 fanboi. You can now add them together and make up your mind. Before the war starts ***takes cover for war(not a safe place)***.

Im sorry but I have tried very hard to justify myself getting a PS3 (I want blueray), but other than that there is absolutely no point to get one. With a PS3(a friends) & Xbox360 in my lounge at the moment the Xbox360 way ahead in terms of graphics, PS3 controler feels like those controls that first came with the original playstation 1.

So it looks as if i'm going to be waiting until standalone Blueray players are under R2000.

Take the trivial arguments of the fanboi bots as presented here for granted but do yourself a favor and read the posts/links below then make up your mind.

The life span of both consoles seems well secured, but looking at the PS2, which is still selling and supported by Sony, its obvious that Sony has a plan differently than the competition. They claim a plan of a lifespan support of 10 years with a new console every 5 years approximately. The PS4 is already in the design stage for release sometime 2012/13.

Also note in the other posts the links to information on the future of the cell structure as opposed to the X86 system. It’s a revelation.

It's already less and will drop further.

And the you have what. A bd player for what. Check the specs and then compare that with the PS3 and see the diffrence.

Also find the cheap model that can DTS master audio. I want one please.

Multimedia
Here’s one area that my friend didn’t really consider last year, as he is mostly concerned with making games for the systems, and not watching movies on them. I bought my XBOX 360 around the middle of 2006, and my PS3 at launch, so I am talking about my personal experience here.

For movies, the PS3 wins hands down. Not only does it have integrated Blu-Ray capability, it is a far superior movie player to begin with. We also must consider that the PS3 can be had for as little as $399, while an XBOX 360 with HD-DVD player will cost at least $530 (Arcade Edition notwithstanding, since nobody in their right mind is going to buy an XBOX 360 without a hard drive).

Regardless of comparing playback image quality, sound quality, and interface, there is one thing that gives the XBOX 360 an automatic “zero” in every category - it is excruciatingly LOUD. There is ONE thing that I HATE when I try to watch a movie, and that’s background noise. I alway go out of the way to make sure my living room is utterly quiet when I sit down to watch a movie, and the sickening screech of the 360’s DVD drive and fans makes this completely impossible.

PS3, on the other hand, is completely quiet during movie playback. Whether you are watching a Blu-Ray, DVD, or other video format, the PS3 isn’t going to make a peep.

I also much prefer the PS3’s interface to the bright, flashy, sluggish interface of the XBOX 360. Turning on the PS3 to watch a high-definition movie feels like a classy, almost ‘high end’ experience. In contrast, fire up the XBOX 360 and you are treated to a whining fan, screeching DVD drive, and bright flashy colours on your screen. The console itself looks more like a ‘toy’ and the external USB drive required for HD-DVD only extends the ‘low end’ feel.

Then you have the other media formats. XBOX 360 was only ever meant to be an ‘Multimedia Extender’. In other words, it was expected that by this time, most people would have a PC dedicated to hosting multimedia using either Windows Media Center or Vista Home. The 360 would pull the files off this dedicated media PC over the network. Therefore, the 360’s multimedia capabilities are actually quite poor. It supports MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and MPEG-4 AVC (h.264), but only in the WMV, MOV, and TS container formats. It supports DLNA, so is able to discover files on DLNA software like Windows Vista.

What on earth are you on about? You CAN'T get HD-DVD anymore!

We're talking about the dedicated media server you mentioned in your post. Are you supporting the XBox 360 or the PS3 because your article is over a year old.

So lets see R1367 + R1600 = R2967. I win!

R1367 BD-ROM + el-cheapo R500 graphics card = under R2000 already.

Just hook that up to your HDTV directly or stream it via the Xbox.

And it works so well. Didn't realise the BD-ROM was so cheap, maybe I should get one since I'm already streaming all my digital content to my 360.

EDIT: Btw, since I am watching Heroes at high volume (and I think Sylar just exploded) the noise of the XBox 360 is of very little bother. Actually my external hard drive is not so quite either, if I turn the sound off. But then I suspect the reason the PS3 is so quiet is that the drive spins at 2x *chortle*

Yeah I'm thinking of going that route myself, I'd much rather have a dedicated media server and a dedicated gaming platform.

Nah the PS3 is quiet because the GPU and CPU don't really work, so there's nothing for the fan to cool :D

If you read through the article then you will see many edits was done even recently. Live in your dream world. That combination you speak about still need a PC with the proper software to function as a fully fledged media centre. So you need to add the price of the PC and software that is capable to do the proper decoding as well as adhere fully to the rest of the BD specifications. Then you will still not have a proper class media centre that can even compare to the cheapest home theater system on the market let alone to the quality of the SONY backed PS3 system. I am sure you know more than everyone else on this forum and also that article author, so believe what you want and let others read and see FACTS for themselves>

I have a 4 year old P4 collecting dust, I may as well make use of it. And it will be more than adequate. Please specify what 'software' and 'specifications' you're referring to because the main requirement is a hardware one, which we've covered. No point in trying to cloak your argument in a myriad of words when all you're really saying is nothing.

Why don't you rather come back and comment when you actually have your PS3 because at the moment you're just sounding like a wannabe PS3 fanboy, which is even worse.
