I know im being silly and ive googled it but seriously why can't a standard out the box PS3 read any NTFS formatted drive? I thought Fat32 is really old school and the fact i have to copy movies via Memory stick at that speed is abit annoying

Do any Media Centres for PS3 etc read NTFS drives?

Noob - sorry

Do Xboxes read NTFS drives even? I think a lot has to come down to the security and file permissions that NTFS introduces.

You can format a big external drive in FAT32 using Swiss Knife. I formated a 320GB WD MyBook.

That doesn't get around the problem of the 2gb max file size though :(

I formatted my 500GB to FAT 32, used it on my PS3 when I had one. So it does work. Unless you're using huge separate files?

Yeah thats total space, I'm referring to HD rips of movies, some of them can go up to 8gb in size.

yeah its not a huge issue..... just thought that it would be awesome to connect my external and thats that. my desktop is downstairs so its some extra exercise back and forth with my memory stick.

Eish, what is that a direct bluray 'uncompressed' rip?

Yip, tried downloading it with FREE WA trial, but they degenerated from bad to worse on their NS trial and instead of 14 days download it relegated to 40 days.:(

47 gigs?! dude i expect to see each individual hair folicle on someones head with a file size that big :p

ps3 works with my windows 7 ultimate pc,anything but brilliant. You should try it.No software needed just enable the built in server in 7.ntfs is read in some bizarre way :D

Get PS3 Media Server and hook your NTFS drive to your PC and it will stream the content directly to your PS3. If you want to play full HD content without the occasional streaming glitch you can just copy files of any size directly to your PS3 from your server and then watch it on your PS3. No file limits as the PS3 uses it's own proprietary format so no worries there.

Decent lossless sound at 1080p uncompressed does take a lot. Because 200gig was free i thought why not? But unfortunately the local scene without SAIX sucks!

Unfortunately their is some things you cannot get via streaming, only direct via PS3 would it be possible, like lossless sound! But not anyone needs or want that.
