PS3 slim wont pick up my external HDD

Have you tried pressing triangle in the video menu with external storage highlighted and then choosing "show all"? The PS3 looks for specific folder names, like "video".

Is the hard drive even giving you that option?

no, it doesnt pick up the hard drive at all

You need to format the drive FAT32 LBA. The problem is the Wondoze will not format it if it is a huge drive.

To see what format it is currently connect to a PC and under windoze right click and select/look at properties for file system.

I would suggest that you copy all info to PC harddrive and reformat drive using this util.

For FAT32 formating I use "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" and/or Swissknife (Download from here) (Does not seem to work on Windows7)

Also don't try and format it exFAT as that doesn't work either. Alternatively if you can connect your PC to your Console you can use PS Media Server to stream your files. Works like a charm and saves you the hassle of formatting drives...
 
so are you guys saying that it will never pick up an external drive if it's formatted in NTFS? no way!

So how then will I play the 13Gig HD copy of Troy that I have on my external formatted as NTFS, seeing that fat32 has a 4GB file size limit....

Yuo have to use programs (Tsmuxer) to reconvert it to a format compatible for the fat32 system. It splits the video in 4GB chunks. See the links I gave/posted in this thread

Streaming real HD video exceeding 24 MBPS takes a strain unless you go wired or Wireless "n". Also you loose many benefits from a HD video when streamed as compared to playing the direct file (first transcoded) on a PS3.
 
Eish!

I purchased a 640 free agent drive, copied over all data to my 400 gig so i can format the 640 free agent to FAT32.

Used HP tool and swiss knife... and guess what it says, volume size too big..... AAAAH! there goes using the 640 on my PS3....
 
i don't get it... so the 640 external won't pick up? or won't it format to 640gb?

search google for fat32formatter.exe, formatted my 500gb drive without any problems.

I used a program to format my 250GB HDD without any problems.

Can't remember wich program it was but I'll check when I get home!

Or check PS3za.co.za under hardware section. You'll find it there!

Hey! theres dudes with 1TB HDDs in their PS3s.

Ask around on PS3za.co.za! No need to panic! :rolleyes:
