PS3 - Thinking of buying

So I already have an Xbox and a fairly outdated PC with which I only play certain online games. I use the Xbox since buying a whole new PC setup will cost about 8k or so, which i'm not interested in forking out for. Now i'm tempted to buy a PS3 purely for the exclusives, and whatever else is good on PS3. Ironically iv'e always wanted almost every single PS3 exclusive, including mgs4 *sulks*. My previous console was a ps2, but due to the price of the xbox 360, I opted to buy an Xbox rather. So my fellow gamers - Would you recommend a PS3 based on the reasons i'm wanting it? :)
 
The PS3 is awesome. had one since they came out. Just remember to budget for games as well. Renting PS3 game is still pretty limited and cant pirate them. The PS3 works well as media controller, i stream vidz from my pc to my big screen tv, no hassly way of getting HD from PC to computer.

It might be worth waiting till Xbox Kinect comes out to compare that with Ps3 Move, since a lot of games will probly be using that soon. The Move is awesome fun, havent played any hard core games on it, but the controllers itself works great, now just waiting for light saber battle game!
 
Had mine for 3mths and so happy. I was in the same situation as my current rig is 6yrs old.

Currently I use my PS3 for games (obvious), ripping my CDs (I've a lot of them), Video editing and uploading to Youtube, Blue Ray player, watching AVI movies


If you want the remote, get from BT Games as they sell the original for under R200 (still need to get). On games, shop around a lot and check out Musica, Take2, BT Games. A lot of games for under R300 and I just got BFBC2 for R200 from Musica and BFBC-Gold for R99 from BT Games :)

As for online play, well I'm going to play some BFBC2 in about 20 minutes time - its so friggn awesome and you get use to it very fast.


Then you can also buy games online, got a couple of el-chepos for the fun of it :) like Peggle & Flower


Anyway, enjoy as you will not have any buyers remorse.
 
I'm just concerned that if I buy it I might end up going back to the Xbox, although it's highly unlikely. IMO the PS3 exclusives are 1000 times better than the Xbox exclusives. The only Xbox exclusives which I think are pretty good is GoW and Forza, other than that the Xbox seems average.Wheres PS3 has God of War, Killzone, Resistance, MGS4, you name it. If I try sell my xbox now, i'm unlikely to get a decent amount for it.
 
Ok where can I find the cheapest PS3? :p Was thinking CNA perhaps?
 
If you can and budget allows, maybe hold out a bit till november. If all the rumors are correct you might be able to pick up Gran Turismo 5 bundle :)
 
Got one over the weekend - Look&Listen - 160Gig - 2999 - everywhere else was sold out of this model - next up is the 250Gig for 4299 which was just bit too much given that I also got an extra controller, two move controllers and the BluRay remote.

It is a fantastic piece of kit.

Oh, and don't forget to pickup an HDMI cable (under R100) it transforms the experience when used in conjunction with an HD TV.
 
Got an HDMI Cable and monitor that supports HDMI. Look&Listen has the 120gig going for R3700 :/
 
Ah MGS4. How i missed out because i bought an Xbox. Its solely the reason i'll be buying a PS3 soon. Although the new MGS is being released on both consoles, it just wont be the same on Xbox. I say go for it dude. Maybe wait for November/December for some Xmas specials. I also might have an interested buyer if you willing to sell your XBox
 
Actually now is the best time if you can pick up an old 250Gig Slim, HiFi had an awesome deal on them. It looks like the new models are the same price as the old ones.
 
Buying a PS3 was the best move I made for gaming and media personally.
I upgraded my HDD to a 500gb and have a good archive of movies and series' on it. Keeps it all neat and in one place. Plus the PS3 Media Server works great for streaming media from my laptop.
Then there is the gaming... :)

I'm willing to sell my Xbox, though i'm not sure about the price.

Don't.

I've got both and I hardly ever play on the PS3. Uncharted & LBP were awesome, but I invariably end up spending 95% of the time on my Xbox.

On the plus side, I haven't upgraded my PC in over 2 years nor do I intend to either.

Get both, but don't flog the xbox. Especially if you're used to the controller. I _HATE_ the ps3 controller. <_<
