PS3 - Thinking of buying

Renting PS3 game is still pretty limited and cant pirate them.

Yes you can. You don't even need BR discs, you can play them directly from a harddrive.

It might be worth waiting till Xbox Kinect comes out to compare that with Ps3 Move, since a lot of games will probly be using that soon. The Move is awesome fun, havent played any hard core games on it, but the controllers itself works great, now just waiting for light saber battle game!

I was also thinking of getting a PS3 because of the Move, but then I looked at the reviews. Only ONE game scored a good review, Tiger Woods. And I'm not really into golf. The Kinect on the other hand already have a couple of good games out.

So not interested in the Move, honestly. If I want the hand waving rubbish stick, I would just buy a Wii.

Yes, you definitely should. I had a 360 first, then got myself a PS3. Gravitated more and more to the PS3, and eventually sold my 360.

Apart from the great exclusives already mentioned, you owe it to yourself to play the best RPG this gen, Demon's Souls. (if you're into RPG's...)

Yeah exactly, I just find theres nothing to play on Xbox! Have a look online and theres nothing that interests me, the only two games I enjoyed was Gears and Graw 1. Graw 2 was pure bollocks.

Get it. HAd an Xbox, then sold it. Bought my Ps3, and haven't looked back. Up to 25 games now, and i'm selective of the typa and review the games have. Just got the move, and it rocks. Kinect is going to dissapoint, believe me. It's very early days for the move, and the games in development for the move are going to be revolutionary. Do you cock your finger and make a gun shape when you play a shooting game with kinect? And if you lose, you place an L shape on your forehead to respawn?

Have to disagree with you - have played with Wii and with Move - you can't compare the two - the Move is far superior - as an example, you can put spin on the ball in Table Tennis - try to do that on a Wii - and the controller is much more comfortable in the hand.

That's exactly my plan :p
Is the price still the same? Or was that a special?

If you're lucky - when I checked over the weekend, there were no 160gigs in stock at CNA branches in the Western Cape.

Oh, and if any of you are looking for an extra Move controller, Musica on St Georges Mall has 4 in stock - everyone in the malls (CNA, Musica, Look&Listen, Incredible) does not have stock (and the lead time on Kalahari is 8-10 days)

Just got the move, and it rocks.

Ok, what rocks about the Move? I'm not talking about stuff that hasn't been released yet, what is good about it now? I'm honestly interested in getting either the Move or Kinect, but if you look at reviews, there's seriously nothing good available for the Move yet.

Don't.

I've got both and I hardly ever play on the PS3. Uncharted & LBP were awesome, but I invariably end up spending 95% of the time on my Xbox.

On the plus side, I haven't upgraded my PC in over 2 years nor do I intend to either.

Get both, but don't flog the xbox. Especially if you're used to the controller. I _HATE_ the ps3 controller. <_<

Going to agree here. I've still got my PS2.

Mmmm ... don't have the move yet, but I'm already looking at getting RUSE & Heavy Rain Move editions

Buy at an special price below R3000 for 120GB or above. Then purchase an HDMI cable (If you have an Ellies distributor close by - they are the cheapest), buy the Bluray Remote at BT Games (got mine for R100) and then go buy yourself a 500GB 2.5" HDD (you can get them now for under R500).
The upgrade is extremely simple and will take only 30 Minutes tops. Also IT DOES NOT VOID ANY WARRANTY.

Once you have done it, I then suggest the following:
1) Create 3 different email adresses (free ones from GMAIL and YAHOO) will do - BUT specify you are in USA, ZA and UK
2) Then create your PSN ID on the internet through your PC/LAPTOP. One for every location (USA, ZA & UK) utilizing your email addys.
The reason for this is that PSN gives out free stuff (APPS, etc.) that are different with every area. But once you have downloaded the app or whatever, it is available for all users on the PS3.
Create three different users on your PS3, one for every PSN ID.

Hope this helps you get started.
PS. Download the latest firmware update via your PC onto a USB-stick to make the compulsory update that much quicker.

I wouldn't sell my 360. In general I play multiplatform games on that. There are a few good exclusives on the PS3 (not many as far as I'm concerned, but I'd say the same about the 360) and that's why I have it. And now that blu-ray is taking off at the rental places I'm using it as a player as well. In my opinion both the 360 and PS3 completely suck as media centres. I use a PC for that.

so tell me, apart from the exclusives on the PS3, if i'm a pc gamer and i want to go the console route, what would be the deciding factor for me to buy a console (PS3)??? i looked @ vids on youtube, 360 vs. ps3 and gfx wise the 360 wins most of the rounds purely because it has got 48 unified pipelines and anti-aliasing... how is the current online gaming setup for the PSN in SA?? if i want to play BFBC2 on the PS3 online, will i pay and will it be a good experience? is the PS3 gfx really that good??? i had a 360 back in 2005, just when they got released in the UK, but back then it was just in the beginning of the next-gen console race and the ps3 wasn't out yet... sold my 360 before i got back from the UK....

also, whats the difference between the 160GB and the 250GB slim PS3 apart from the HDD space??

Xbox 360 graphics are generally equal to or better than the PS3. Maybe Sony likes aliasing. Though if you were only going to own one console and a PC, then the PS3 would probably make good sense, because many of the multiplatform games are available for the PC as well.
