Hey all.

Today I received my new PS3 slim. It tells me that I need to upgrade to version 3.01 of its software.

Has anybody done this?

What's the safest way to do this without bricking it?

Thanks in advance,
Angstrom.

update it from the console - just accept when it asks to update

You need the latest update if you want to go online

It's totally safe

And totally annoying - happens to often - and v3.0 stuffed up my console - controllers (Sony DS3, Sony Bluray Remote, Harmony 1000) stopped working - struggled to get the console running again, took over a month.

3.01 fixes (most of) the problems that v3 introduced.

I would suggest downloading the file using your PC, then copying it to a flashdisk.

Uncharted gives me problems on v3. Waiting on cap to download the v3.01 update. Then sony is going to piss me off and release a v3.02 update. Eish

Just got a freeze in Uncharted, running V3.01. :(

No, near the end when you are running away from the zombie things. Reloaded and completed the stage ok.

LOL i found a dude on Gumtree saying he will upgrade your ps3 firmware to 3.01 for a R100, I lol so hard at that, trying to scam stupid ppl to pay for a free update

Some people don't really know what to do regarding updating firmware. There is also a lot of stigma that updating firmware will destroy your PS3 if done by a noob. Some don't even have the internet. Eish!

I think thats the biggest selling point - considering the size of the updates, and time taken to download them - R100 doesn't sound that bad.

My update from 3 to 3.01 kept failing during the download, it wasted about 1.5GB of my damn cap, for some stupid reason it restarted EVERY time... I eventually downloaded on my laptop, bought a card reader, and did it that way.
