PS3 Update to 3.01

Are you installing from the console or downloading the update file from your computer? The latter should be pretty failproof so long as you use a decent download manager. Its available locally too.

I find it a lot easier downloading it on my laptop and then use a flash stick to update my PS3. No problems at all.

Initially from the console - didn't have a flash drive or card reader - from the console worked fine until I did v3, it screwed up everything, controllers, remote, harmony, internet.
 
after reading a few posts here and there in the beginning of the thread, i'm too scared to connect to the net now. i'm no IT expert. someone hold my hand. :o

Well buying a sub R100 flashdisk would probably save you a lot of heartache.
 
ok sorry for being doff but where can i download the 3.01 ?
also if possible can we get it off local b/w :(?

No - needs to go in a specific folder - can't recall what. :p

Think its X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP (rename if necessary).

I was able to patch my new PS3 successfully without bricking it. We've had so many power outages lately that I held my breath the whole time ;)
 
does it look much different ? i only just got the slim and i think it looks great.anything that much better with 3.01?
 
Than 3.0? My controllers, remote control and harmony work again in 3.01
 
Not so far as I can tell, but it now allows me to register on the PlayStation network.

Keep in mind, I'm a complete PS3 novice, so it may be vastly different and I just don't know the difference! ;)

Logitech Harmony series of remotes - its a universal remote control. All my electronics, including the PS3 (for bluray), and lounge light are controlled by one remote - the rest are hidden where people can't find them.
