I have the option to buy a PS3 today for R4500 with 2 controllers and 2 games (Uncharted: Drake's Fortune & Heavenly Sword). I'm a former Sony fanboy (see http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=106310) who has seen what the 360 is capable of. Should I buy the PS3 or the Xbox 360 Pro? Please support your console choice :)

Pass the popcorn, this is going to be fun :P

(oh you may want to post some more details as to what you are looking for in a console)

This has only been covered a gazillion times ;)

I was a Sony fanboi myself, but converted to MS now. Sony seemed to do everything to screw themselves over. For me at the moment there is just simply more games on the 360 that i want to play and that's what its gonna come down to, what games do you want to play ;)

Add to the fact that the PS3 games cost more, the console costs more ;) And the 360's Live Service is leaps and bounds ahead of PSN.

EDIT: Add in an extra R400 and you can have an Xbox Arcade and a Nintendo Wii for the price of the PS3 ;) Use it ... dont use it ;)

Just a note the PS3 games are generally now the same price as the 360 games.

I do believe Live is better than PSN but PSN is supported locally while live is not

Is it ? Perhaps it's the retailers I frequent then.

Eg. GTA4 for X360 was R700, GTA4 for PS3 was R800 at Incredible Connection. GTA4 being the latest title where I have noticed it.

I would get the PS3, I like it's exclusive titles, and most good titles are cross platform with the competition anyway. And I can rest assured it wont break anytime soon.

Graphics wise they're still much the same ... anyone disagree?

Search this forum, this has been discussed so many times.

Read everybodies posts and make a decision.

Have fun with whatever you get.

I just checked the incredible site, the offer seems to be over, they only had 5 per store at that price :(

I was looking at a similar choice and asked here. From what I could work out its like this.

Xbox 360 for the hard core gamers for right now, this second. More games available.

Gaming quality is much of a muchness between the consoles.

PS3 has games, just not as many. More are to follow.

PS3 does have bluray. This is not important to gamers as the format does not seem to offer any advantage to them right now. The increased space over DVD might make a difference later though.

As a media centre thought he PS3 rocks because of the bluray drive rocks. The format war is over and Bluray it is.

So the question is. Are you a really hard core gamer who will spend alot of time gaming.( I mean alot-- you will have to play alot before you are bored with the titles available on PS3 -- beside more are being launched all the time). If so the xbox might be for you. If not, and there are still many hard core guys out there who would disagree with me for saying go Xbox for hard core gamers, the PS3 is the way to go. Sure it costs a few bucks more. But it is a better long term bet IMHO.

Now lets get out that popcorn (in my family I am the undisputed popcorn making champ:))

If you're not to fussy about it being brand new, check out the local cape ads ,junkmail or gumtree, some bargains out there to be had :)

I'm not a hardcore gamer but I'll be gaming on most weekends. I like FPS & car games. Gears of War is the one of the reasons I'm leaning towards the 360.

IC will give me the PS3 for R4499 because I asked them nicely on Saturday :)

Just to throw a spanner in the works here.

The PS3 doesn't win flat out on the media center side. Blu-Ray won the war but there is still a large and vocal group who think that Blu-Ray will never go mainstream.

So if you scrap the Blu-Ray then the two are equal with the 360 possibly winning with it's better integration with Windows for obvious reasons.

My personal opinion is that Blu-Ray will not become mass market until towards the end of 2009 or early 2010. By that time stand alone players will be a lot cheaper.

What I do recommend as well is going and having some game time with the controllers, I don't like the fact that the SIXAXIS is so light and doesn't have rumble... but that again is a personal thing and I know that a lot of people prefer the SIXAXIS...

Harcore or not, my friends and I prefer the xbox since we prefer the games on it compared to PS3 games. I myself am pretty hardcore, playing more than 5hrs a night, and over 12hrs on the weekend. In the end it comes down to a matter of preferance as mccrack said (Selective quoting i know)

Thats a big if.
I just cant see how guys with HD screens want to look at anything else. Why buy one in the first place? HD is light years ahead and I want to enjoy it now , not in 3 years time. In PC terms imagine saying that you can have dual/quad core now but it will be cheaper in 3 years time. So wait till then. DVD is OK. HD is wow. Actually after a while of watching HD ,DVD gets relagated to alot lower than ok.

Horses for courses, different strokes for different folks, whatever rows your oars.
