PS3 vs XBOX360

Though pricing for games is a bit more on the Xbox 360 for XBLA games, it used to be comparable until they decided 1200 points will be the new standard.

Is xbox live better purely because of the amount of people?

How do the 2 compare as an actual service i wonder?

It really has come down to pure game choice.

Do you want Kinect ?
Do you want Move ?
Which console has more of the exclusives that you want ?

Consoles primary functions being games choose according to titles.

So far Live is still better as a service, easier to use and various other little features you will only miss once you've attempted the PS3

Nothing matters but the games at the end of the day. I don't believe it's a matter of opinion as to which console has the better exclusives. Many of the best games of this generation are PS3 only, and the only notable exclusives for Xbox 360 are Halo, Gears of War, Fable & Crackdown. Fable 3 is available on PC now anyway. Mass Effect 2 is coming out for PS3 in 2 months or so.

I know a bunch of people who own an Xbox 360. Nothing I've ever seen or played at their houses has made me wish I had an Xbox. But every single Xbox owner who comes over to my place immediately jumps into games that they can't play, like God of War or Metal Gear Solid 4. I can't understand how people think it's cool to blow R600+ on a single year of online play. I'd rather have another game. Cross game chat, which isn't currently available on PS3, isn't a big deal to me. I actually like the fact that the people I'm playing against in my game session aren't excluded from the in-game chat because they're talking to their own friends who aren't in our game. And I think the trophy system is way better than Xbox's achievements. Trophies differentiate your achievements and provide something more 'tangible'. Earning gold or platinum trophies adds value to your profile. A big number doesn't really mean much.

OMG...Personal Preference perhaps?

How does that help the OP in any way?

Wow Bias is bias, both consoles have got great exclusives and they've both actually contributed to good games of this generation, yes PS3 has the Uncharted series while Xbox has Gears of War series which has spawned many cover based games.

Have you tried both?
Yep, my brother in law has a PS3 so I have a fair amount of experience with both platforms.

Kind of pointless when you haven't played Mass Effect 1, and therefore can't import your character and decisions made in the first game. Decisions made in the first game affect the story, and will therefore have an effect on ME2 and ME3.

As for some of the exclusives being available on PC, did you really expect anything different considering that it's MS involved? PC is a different platform and has it's own pros and cons - the cost of upgrading hardware more than makes up for the difference in pricing of the games. You also don't get to relax on the couch and delve into a multiplayer session with your buddies. This thread is exclusively for which console he should go for.

The point is there are great exclusives available for each console, and he should therefore experience both before deciding one way or another.

So right you have experience with both then list the differences between LIVE and PSN, surely having tried both there must be more than LIVE has more people :D.

Why is LIVE better apart from having more people?

Two off the top of my head for live are cross party chat (which Sony has been promising for awhile now) and easier to get matched up and play games, I tried getting a game in Uncharted 2 once it took almost 10 minutes to find something and then booted me off, Resistance 2 as well. Though I've heard PSN is better for BFBC apparently

I've already listed a few of them in this thread (more people wasn't the only one, more content being another). Cross-party chat and easier matching (as stated by Lupus) being another. BTW you don't even need to be a paid member to access all the content, the free account will do. You can find more differences between the two by searching for them, I'm not google :)

Imagine trying to play multiplayer only to find that there are only 10 other people online and 8 of them are already matched. XBL virtually guarantees that there are 100s of people online, but hey if you enjoy playing against 2 people then that's your choice ;)

I finished ME2 on PC without having spent more than 20 min on the original. I enjoyed every minute of ME2. ME is definitely not required. It took me a few minutes to read ME's plot on Wikipedia before I started the sequel.

The guy said he's primarily a PC gamer. Obviously titles that he'll have on PC he won't buy again for console, and PC gamers generally prefer games like CoD and Half Life on PC. It's relevant.

I've never had trouble finding people to play against on PSN, and I've never given a thought to 'matching'. Most multiplayer games have some way of indicating the skill level of a game in progress.

Well yeah dude must listen to you cause you own both consoles, so extensive knowledge of the subject is just going to come from you. Honestly I used to be like you with the 360 though, but then I got a PS3 and realised there is more to life then just harping on about the one console you bought, both are brilliant and if he was an ex-PC player the easier transition is actually the 360 not the PS3. Also you might have played ME2 with no problems but you missed out on a lot that importing your old character brings.

I agree both are brilliant.

These threads always end the same.

If you search you can find about 50 of these. I don't know why people still create these topics, 4 years down the line when all the info is already everywhere for them to find.

But I have to say apart from the annoyances in ME1, like having to deal with hundreds of picked up items you have to get rid off and the terrible framerate at times, the story is great and the ending is just amazing. I already forgot ME2's ending but the fist sticked. When you start the second game you know exactly why Shepard is a legend.

The possible interactions in ME2 as a result of certain ME save games can be found with Google in seconds. Missing out on a little picture frame in the Captain's Quarters didn't mean much to me. In any case, I'm not that much of a ME2 fan. I enjoyed the game and since finishing it have no intention of ever touching it again.

I'm a PC gamer. It was my only platform before I got my PS3 this year and I still play lots of PC games. I wouldn't say there's much of a 'transition' to make. It takes a few seconds to get the hang of shooting and changing the camera with analog sticks. I would say the PS3 is easier to pick up and play. Every time I'm playing Xbox at a friends house I'm constantly dealing with the damn prompts to sign in before I can load a game (granted my best friend's Xbox is offline). The PSN stays the hell out of your way on PS3 and the online play is free, much like on PC.

Games like LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, inFamous, GT5, Killzone, Resistance & The Last Guardian are must haves. What's the Xbox 360's response? Forza, Gears, Crackdown, Fable and Halo? Where's the epic adventure quest? The hack 'n slash? The artsy masterpiece? What does Xbox have compared to Ratchet & Clank and the Sly Cooper Collection?

My point is that the Xbox 360 does not have a complete catalogue of games. What is biased is to recommend a platform that can't provide for his every whim.

I spent weeks on ME1! As great as ME2 is, ME1 just has a certain feel to it. It feels like a real universe because most of the worlds are open-ended. The Citadel in ME2 is pretty much limited to a few locations, whereas in ME1 it felt like a living, breathing city.

Also depends which controller you prefer. Lightweight or Heavyweight or if you prefer no controller at all(Kinect).
