Urgh. Xbox 360 have better "polished" multiplatform titles 90% of the time. The average joe (no PC gaming background) will probably not notice any difference. PS3 have a few nice exclusives and you can blu-ray. But chances are you are gonna get it because of BR and end up barely using it. But you will sleep better I guess.

"A few nice exclusives"? LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, inFamous, Gran Turismo, Killzone, Resistance, Twisted Metal, MotorStorm, Demon's Souls, Agent & The Last Guardian to name the big franchises. Try living without them once you've played them. I bought a PS3 for no reason other than those games. Almost all other games are available on PS3 and Xbox 360, so basically with a PS3 I can play whatever I want. It's a gaming console - nothing should matter much other than the games.

In our house the xbox is used for games, and the ps3 as a paperweight.
Used to use the ps3 for blu ray but since hd on dstv, not any more.

I've already posted the list of exclusives, the Xbox clearly has more, the majority of which are not mediocre either. Out of all the exclusives that I've bought, Too Human was the only one that I'd say was appaling, mainly due to sh*tty controls and an annoying death scene which you can't skip.

As said before, the best thing to do is to get both and put an end to this daft debate.
The Xbox 360 exclusives don't hold a candle to the PS3's. I mentioned Halo, Gears, Fable, Crackdown & Forza. What else is worth mentioning? Ninety-Nine Knights? Viva Piñata? Alan Wake is the most notable exclusion from my list of Xbox games, and at a glance I can't spot any others.
So the Xbox 360 has a handful of decent exclusives, we all accept that. But the PS3's exclusives are genre defining. Name the number one title in each genre. They're all available on PS3.
If you can afford it get both. They each have a few decent exclusive games, and for cross-platform games you're better off with the Xbox. And rather get yourself a basic HTPC for multimedia because frankly both consoles suck as media centres.

I own a ps3, xbox and ps3. I love two of them... the wii sucks.
There are a few youtube videos where people benchmark live and psn, and they are on the same level. Live is coming to SA, but without all of those extra features everyone abroad loves and would pay for.
The xbox controller does feel a lot better, but after a few hours my one hand gets sore, where with the ps3 it does not happen.
The ps3 does have better exclusives than the xbox (my opinion), uncharted and god of war and metal gear solid is enough reason to want a ps3, where the xbox you get two great exclusives, halo and gears of war.
The ps3 is by far a better home entertainment solution.
The ps3 is almost hacker proof, so you wont be able to pirate games unless you never update from 3.41 or 3.41, not sure. Xbox is easy to pirate games.
The xbox is 5 years old and is still on par with the ps3 in terms of graphics, which is great, wish pc games would work the same.
Xbox is much cheaper in terms with the console itself and accessories, it also has a bigger library of games. the prices of the games on the consoles dont differ.
solution: I would suggest you browse Wikipedia's list of exclusives for both consoles and find out about future exclusives and then decide on that basis which console you want and on nothing else. This is my opinion, and everyones tastes differ, im trying to be objective as possible.

1. A person who is completely loyal to a game or company reguardless of if they suck or not.
2. A pathetic insult often used by fanboys themselves to try and put down people who don't like whatever it is they like.
3. An arrogant person who goes into an outburst every time something he likes is questioned. Fanboys usually acuse others of being fanboys. Usually use 1337 and swarm MMORPGs. Fanboys caused alot of fallouts between people when they started arguing about consoles. If you insult something that a fanboy likes, he will spam your computer up and try to insult something that you like.
4. Another annoying feature of a fanboy is that if he is loyal to a console, he usually goes to rival console forums and spams the place up with inults about how his console is 'better'.
They take the 'console war' very seriously, as if it's a real war.
5. Someone that is not a gamer, but a lamer and doesn't bother to even try other console systems, but favor only one forgetting their history like the nooblets they are.

Just admit that you are a fanboy, and are biased, and that there are also Xbox fanboys who feel the exact opposite of how you do. Your view is not correct or factual or objective, and is in no way helpful to the OP. Its just your opinion.

Except I have an argument and the Xbots don't. Do you disagree with my game selection? Metacritic and IGN seem to agree with me. Those are the best games in their respective genres. A huge chunk would be missing if you didn't account for PS3 exclusives.
Adventure and 3D plaforming, and espionage and hack 'n slash would suck.
Banjo-Kazooie, Tomb Raider, Kameo: Elements of Power, Splinter Cell: Conviction, DMC4, Fable 3 and Sacred 2 really don't make up for what's offered on PS3 at all. I'm talking 90%+ average reviews.
My point is that the PS3 has a incredible range of titles across every genre, whereas the Xbox 360 is lacking in some.
Personally, I can't understand how people think it's ok to not have Littlebigplanet and Uncharted. What the hell people.

If someone had given me the extra money, I'd have got a PS3. I'd be happy with either to be honest. You can't buy both, games are just too expensive, unless you're rolling in it.

I'm not. If the Xbox 360 released a stack of killer exclusives over the next year, I'd buy it. I buy whatever console has the best games. GT5 will be amazing. Every review site has been impressed with recent demonstrations, and Polyphony has never stuffed a Gran Turismo up.
Did you even read my posts? I admit I'm not exactly unbiased, but it's hardly all matter of opinion stuff. Metacritic doesn't lie, free online play is free online play etc. If you have a problem with something I've said then rebut with factual evidence. 'Rehashed arguments' and 'fanboi bias' doesn't tell me anything. I've done my best to present real arguments to support my claim that the PS3 is a superior platform, and I have yet to receive an adequate reply from someone refuting what I've said. In fact this entire thread contains nothing but me repeating myself in frustration and Xbots saying that their controller is better and that I'm talking rubbish. Are some of you BLIND? Video games are about the games. PS3 has the best games across every genre. /thread

To answer your question, no I cannot play 3D movies and would not buy a R50k 3D TV.
Just like LCD HDTV's that initially started off with high prices, will come down to affordable levels.
