PS3 vs XBOX360

The argument was that the PS3 and xbox had similar media capabilities.
To answer your question, no I cannot play 3D movies and would not buy a R50k 3D TV.
Just like LCD HDTV's that initially started off with high prices, will come down to affordable levels.
but they do have similar media capabilities, xbox can play HD content, just not off a disc
and sure the prices will come down, but by then we might be in the next console generation, and all consoles will support 3D blu ray

Playing BD movies is kind of a big deal. I always rent Blu-ray if it's available. Many movies have a very noticeable increase in quality in high definition, and admittedly some do not. But it's great fun. In the holidays my girlfriend used Blu-ray as an excuse to come over every second night to watch movies. Overall the difference is there and somehow the fact that it's high definition makes you pay attention to the movie more, at least it did for me. Internet is SA is crap. No one wants to be downloading HD content if it's readily available on disk.

I've heard about this guy who got the red ring of fire on the xbox. His house burned down. Be care careful of the xboxs.

true, but the OP wasnt very interested in blu ray, and if you exclude blu ray, media playback is exactly the same on both

I'm not. If the Xbox 360 released a stack of killer exclusives over the next year, I'd buy it. I buy whatever console has the best games. GT5 will be amazing. Every review site has been impressed with recent demonstrations, and Polyphony has never stuffed a Gran Turismo up.

Did you even read my posts? I admit I'm not exactly unbiased, but it's hardly all matter of opinion stuff. Metacritic doesn't lie, free online play is free online play etc. If you have a problem with something I've said then rebut with factual evidence. 'Rehashed arguments' and 'fanboi bias' doesn't tell me anything. I've done my best to present real arguments to support my claim that the PS3 is a superior platform, and I have yet to receive an adequate reply from someone refuting what I've said. In fact this entire thread contains nothing but me repeating myself in frustration and Xbots saying that their controller is better and that I'm talking rubbish. Are some of you BLIND? Video games are about the games. PS3 has the best games across every genre. /thread

This is where you should start to realize you are not being objective - when not everyone shares the same view as you. 44 million people bought an xbox - are all of them wrong? Think about that. What makes you think you've discovered some divine revelation that no one else, or at least no one else besides fanboys, has discovered?

Whether you like a game or not is entirely subjective. MGS4 is rated very highly, but not all people like it, for instance. What use is a metacritic ranking in that case? Halo 3 is rated highly, yet you probably dont like it. Why not?

And so it goes. Using metacritic to determine which console is great if you a Hypothetical Gamer who plays Hypothetical Games. But I'm not a Hypothetical Gamer, I'm a real gamer, and thus as highly rated as Halo 3 is, I think its at best a mediocre to good game.

It is you lacking objectivity. Most people are too uninformed to make rational decisions. The Xbox 360 has always been the cheaper console. For many people, this is all that matters. Regardless, 41.6 million people bought PS3's, and it was released a year after the Xbox 360. People are starting to realise which is the better platform.

I use Metacritic when deciding whether to buy games. How does this not make me a 'real' gamer? A would have bought Naughty Bear, Castlevania etc had I not checked out global opinions on the games. Now I'll just rent them when they're available. Also, attacking my statements with sales figures is really desperate on your part. The quality of any form of media has never been measured by financial success.

I do like Halo 3 actually. I'm not a huge Gears fan tbh, for some reason I struggle to aim and the colours are bland for the most part. I like Fable and Forza. Not nearly as much as I like LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted, God of War etc, which I couldn't live without, and are backed up by higher Metacritic scores because many people agree with me.

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to games. Generally, people enjoy higher rated games more - Metacritic does show aggregate scores after all. And the PS3 has top quality titles in every genre, which cannot be said about the Xbox 360.

I suggest maybe looking at how many of those xbox's were bought by americans. xbox's are predominant in the US and the PS3 in Japan. Look at the EMEAA regions and you will find that the PS3 is leading by 1.4mil. What is also interesting is that the xbox was leading in the EMEAA region with a year more in the market. Shows the rate of sales for the PS3 has overtaken the xbox by quite a large margin.

I would think that all reviewers has a set of benchmarks when reviewing a game. Whether you like it or not is your own personal preference/benchmark. Since at the end of the day there is a human element in each review, thats where one reviewer will differ from the next. I assume you do buy some games according to reviews right? That means you trust there is an aspect of objectivity in the review.

Depends what you define as a great console. Is it for the great games? If so, what will define a great game if you don't own it. I think metacritic is a good start.
Or would it be purely from spec? If so, I don't really need to elaborate which console has the better spec.
Define "Hypothetical Gamer"? The start of your post you say that 44 mil people bought the xbox so how could they be wrong? What you are saying is that the Halo series sold 34 mil copies, only "real" gamers can see past all that and find out that the game is only mediocre to good?

Similar but PS3 still ahead with BD & WIFI.
Even so, my decade old console can still play 3D movies. :)

The Xbox 360 exclusives don't hold a candle to the PS3's. I mentioned Halo, Gears, Fable, Crackdown & Forza. What else is worth mentioning? Ninety-Nine Knights? Viva Piñata? Alan Wake is the most notable exclusion from my list of Xbox games, and at a glance I can't spot any others.

So the Xbox 360 has a handful of decent exclusives, we all accept that. But the PS3's exclusives are genre defining. Name the number one title in each genre. They're all available on PS3.
"Doesn't hold a candle" is a matter of opinion. Rather just state that it is your opinion instead of littering this thread with annoying fanboyism.

Sometimes padawan you must use your own words wisely.

At which point did I use any fanboyish descriptions such as his? If you look, I've said multiple times that the best thing is to get both. Both have pros and cons.

It's not a matter of opinion. Read my posts ffs. I'm sick of listing off the PS3 exclusives again and again. Forza, Halo, Gears, Fable and Alan Wake do NOT come close to matching them, in number, in aggregate score, in brand power or in playability. You're like a broken record man. Either name some Xbox 360 exclusives that make up for LittleBigPlanet, God of War, Uncharted & co. or don't mention it.

The OP doesn't want both. If I ask a friend whether I should get a Ferrari California or a Nissan GT-R and he says "get both man, both have their pros and cons", I'll tell him to get lost.

While I'm a huge 'fan' of the PS3 since buying one in June, I haven't said once in this thread that the OP should buy a PS3 because 'I say so' or because 'I have everyone console and I only play PS3'. I break my argument down into logical segments. The exclusive games ARE better, online play IS free, the PSN network IS rather good, Blu-ray playback IS a big plus. I go out of my way to create a structured answer for the OP and all I get back from guys like you is 'meh, fanboi'. I'm gonna snap sooner or later if you don't respond properly. You'd fail so hard at debating.

Haha ironic that. Anyway I'm done here. You've had your console since June so you're still in your honeymoon phase. Go ahead and enjoy it, and enjoy spewing forth your fanboyism in this thread.

PS: the reason that I haven't listed any titles is because this has been discussed ad-nauseam on this forum. But I wouldn't expect somebody who's been a part of the 7th generation for four months to understand that.

Lol. So many assumptions, none of which are correct. I've been playing console games for years. My PS3 wasn't the first current gen console in the house.

You're the only broken record in this thread. I don't care what other people have discussed. What the hell kind of cop out statement is that? The reason you haven't responded to ONE SINGLE point I've made over the last 8 pages is because you can't. Metacritic will back up by assertion of superior exclusive games, and that's just one point I've made. The only two reasons on earth to get an Xbox 360 are 1) everything about it is cheaper and 2) all your friends might be on Xbox Live. That's it. If a console has better exclusive games, perfectly functional free online play and Blu-ray playback it is not fanboyish to say that it's better overall.

Your post is a good example of what I've been saying about you: you managed to say absolutely nothing in 2 lines. Nothing at all. 'Fanboy', 'you're wrong'. That's basically your side of the debate. Just leave man. You've wasted the time of everyone who's responded to or read any of your posts.

ditto for you.

ditto for you.

Sigh. Thanks for giving me a reason why.

Here's a summary of this thread:
1) I enter thread
2) I answer OP's question
3) I back up my opinion as factually as possible
4) A few users disagree, with vague statements about each console
5) I correct some misstatements and request a rebuttal of my points, which are not vague
6) I receive accusations of fanboyism
7) I respond to accusations and receive more accusations

Let's run through my points about why the PS3 is better than the Xbox 360:
1) It has Blu-ray
2) Online play is free and very functional
3) It's the only console with incredible games in every genre - this is the only point that can constitute fanboyism, so I back it up:
me said:
Action: Red Dead Redemption
Shooter: Killzone, Resistance, Bad Company 2, Bioshock, Black Ops etc
3D Platformer: Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet
Adventure: Uncharted, Heavy Rain
Hack 'n Slash: God of War, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
Role-playing: Fallout, Valkyria, Borderlands, Demon's Souls, Oblivion, FFXIII, Dragon Age
Fighting: Tekken 6, Super Street Fighter IV
Simulation: The Sims 3
Espionage: Metal Gear Solid 4, Agent
Strategy: Civilization Revolution, Endwar, Ruse, RE3
Racing: Gran Turismo 5, WipEout HD, ModNation, Hot Pursuit, MotorStorm
Music: Rock Band 3, DJ Hero etc
Flight: WarHawk, IL-2, HAWX 2
Puzzle: Cuboid, Peggle, Puzzle Quest, Shatter etc
Sports: FIFA 11, NHL 11 etc
Children: Lego Harry Potter, Ratchet & Clank etc
Bold is PS3 exclusive, red is critically acclaimed
The Xbox 360 has no answer to God of War, Ratchet & Clank, ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, The Last Guardian, Twisted Metal, inFamous, Sly Cooper Collection, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers. We all know that the only amazing Xbox 360 exclusives are Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza, Alan Wake and Splinter Cell. These just cannot replace the PS3 ones because they don't cover the same genres, whereas the PS3 still has some good titles in the same genres as the amazing Xbox 360 exclusives.
Therefore => not unreasonable to say that PS3's exclusives are far superior.
Metacritic agrees with my praise of these games, and anyone can tell what genre a game is in. There is factual evidence involved here.

Can anyone honestly tell me I'm a deluded fanboy and I didn't present a decent argument in favour of the PS3?

If the PS3 is the only current gen console capable of providing the OP with amazing games in any genre of his choosing, Blu-ray playback and free online play, then it is the better choice if he can get only one console.
