PS4 tries to start up but after 2 seconds it switches off. It's a new console with little usage.

Any ideas?

I'm going to have to RMA to Orange Store and see how it goes.

Definitely not a bad hard drive.

Try :

take out the power cord, press the on the button again, it will cut out. Then plug the power cord back in, make sure you have your controller plugged in to the ps4. Then press the on button again and the ps4 should turn on switch on, then you get multiple options, which you should then select " rebuild the ps4's database "

Also try reseat the power and HDMI cable.

Are you using the HDMI cable that came with the PS4 or another one?

Is it close to a PC? Sometimes consoles feel inferior if they can feel the presence of a PC and shut themselves down.

Yes, because your average crummy Intel Celeron laptop makes a PS4 feel sooooo scared :P

Haha orange

It's less than 3 months old with about 20 odd hours of operation on it or less.

Haha, they agreed to RMA it.

We'll see.

Credit card also offers a double warranty on it too.

Advice: AVOID SONY PRODUCTS. Especially their cr-ppy PS4 and don't buy their Vaios. Sony is an overrated brand IMO. Their stuff fails.

Haha, I did that.

Thanks!

Same one.

I tried different HDMI cables, even of better quality. In fact when it failed the HDMI cable was still in and was not moved.

Took out HDD too, still does not boot up. If the HDD crashed it should have given an error supposedly and stayed booted up.

It starts up for 2 sec then goes dead.

It's simply a poor product. And a waste of money and time.

Tried different power cables too. Same story.

Tried to apply pressure during boot up to the side.

Tried Safe Boot.

They simply can't handle the Light of GabeN.

My PS4 is a year old, many many hours of gameplay, still works perfectly. But my sony xperia Z3 compact's rear panel cracked within 2 months for no reason. and sony is doing everything they can to dodge the bullet.

I would agree that most sony products these days are really crap, very poor quality products.

It doesn't work. Pressing down the ON button for >7 seconds or >10 sec does not work. The thing shuts down after 2 sec or so regardless what you do.

Sony is all hype. Top of the line business Vaois are designed to fail. Their DVD players fail. Now a lousy game console which should work considering the abuse these things take. And this thing was 20 hours operation and was treated well. No drops. No spills. No dust. No wobbly surface. Surge protected cable.

Wrong. You bought a grey import. You deserve what you get.

Sony is awesome.

Regardless, you've been reined in by the vendor repair regime. You'll never get a new PS4, they'll just keep sending you refurbs until your warrantee expires. Goodluck lol

What the heck are you smoking?

It's a genuine Sony product. Grey, maybe, but it's still a genuine Sony product which just died for no reason.

I think you need to learn what a gray product is. It's not a counterfeit product. OK, now that you understand that, know your silly rant is irrational.

Lots of people are having these issues too all over the world.

Sony is a lousy company.

It's a console not a car or a pacemaker. :) It's a freaking toy. I'm happy to have a functional refurb. If it works good. If it fails after a year, Sony will lose as I will not buy more PS4 games. And I'll contribute to bad publicity.

Besides I only had one game on it, the PS3 here has the same game and much more and works well after 3-4 years of light use.

(Electronics tend to work if it doesn't fail after the first few days. So if I get a functioning refurb which works while under warranty, all will be well. And lots of people with "non-gray" consoles have to pay Sony the repair fee because their warranty is one year anyway.)
