Lol, so much for 10 years of PS3, it's due in 2011.

http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News-206929.aspx

Goto Hiroshige has received PSX4 spec info from Japanese developer sources who received preliminary spec from SCEI for developer feedback(whom Goto refuses to name due to NDA).

- SCEI has sent rough PSX4 spec to 3rd party developers for feed back. Based on the description, PSX4 is a Wii-tized PSX3, no more than 2X as powerful.
- SCEI wants to beat Xbox 3 to launch. 2011 is the deadline, or sooner.
- SCEI pulled all its engineers from IBM Texas, and there is no new CELL architecture being developed. PSX4 will use same CELL architecture with improvements.
- SCEI will dump XDR and use standard JEDEC memory type(GDDR3/DDR3) for main memory.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! :D
Wii-tized...so they are going to go for the "casual market" by selling a console at R7000+. Is there anything whether it is BD?

maybe with this console we'll see the Cell power that cures cancer by watching it (Disclaimer, only in BD)

Sounds kinda like what they did with the PSP...doubling RAM, reducing size and ultimately not really improving anything

I think you could be half right, all playstation console models get re-released with a smaller housing, ie:the slim, after a while.

If you go to the original website, its all in japanese, so who ever the translater is who tried translate that website, forget that it has to be read right to left first.;)

Lol, and they'll expect to sell 'future proof v2.0' at +-R8000...

That's the thing it's not that much more powerful they're talking basically 2x the power - it's going to use the same Cell Chip, just a bit modded.

If this is true (let's be honest it's an internet rumour and I know internet rumours :D ) It points to an Xbox1 -> Xbox 360 problem, the current one is too damn expensive and they need to get it off the market as quickly as possible.

Lol! nice Church ;)

I have little doubt it'll use Blu-Ray. I have little doubt Xbox Next will also use Blu-Ray, by then it'll cost about the same as a DVD.

It's amazing how every 360 fanboy is on a constant Blu-ray bashing tirade, but if it gets used in the next 360, it somehow isnt THAT bad, and the price by then whould be cheaper etc, so what we basically have here is once again the "i will always be blindly antagonistic towards something other than what i currently stand for, UNLESS said thing jumps ship to my side", making everything hunky-dory once again. ;)

Maybe they just leaked these false specs, to make Microsoft not think anything of it. When it eventually do come out, it will be 4 x faster and using GDDR6.

And it will cost 15 times more and it will run on nuclear power and only 3 people in the world will be able to afford it and then sony will stop making consoles and concentrate more on walkman's !

No dude, it's about blind geek lust versus common sense.

Obviously, in tech everything becomes cheaper over time, but it's asymptotic. What the BD lovers neglect is 'value'. At present BD presents little value. It costs too much for what it does. In time that will change. In 3 years BD drives (or even the next gen after that) will cost the same as DVD drives, and whomever would be silly not to use it.

What's obvious is that content in games is not yet at the point of demanding Blu-ray. Yes some games are bigger, but 90%+ of games are still fitting on a single DVD so the leap to BD has been proven to be premature.

I have no intention on specifically buying a BD player, but in time BD (or its successor) will replace DVD out of sheer tech depreciation. It's not a case of "buying a BD player", I'll buy a replacement for my DVD player when it packs up, and I'll replace it with the best value device at the time.

very good point.

i'm guessing M$ will add bluray to their xbox when it is needed and supported more.

The reality is Dvd came out in the mid 90's and it was adopted gradually over time to become the standard, what sony is trying to do is force people to switch to blu ray immediately
