PS5

Well it's their opinion and there's certain parts I agree with. It may be true that 3rd parties will always push out more games, but it's also true that Sony simply isn't pushing out exclusives as quickly as they used to in past generations...

It's an industry wide trend, you can look at EA for example. We also had Covid which till this day gets ignored when this discussion comes up

The difference is that Sega had an uphill battle at the start. MS is big enough to probably do 3rd party approach and keep making consoles. I don't think they will exit the console hardware space but the next XB will probably be a PC hybrid type thing that can run Steam as well

They already PC's, same with PlayStation

Xbox is a PC based on Windows 11 Core.
PlayStation is a PC using Orbis OS that had its roots in FreeBSD.

Xbox 360, and PS3 was the last true "Consoles".

Right, I meant more like "closed ecosystem" as apposed to the technical architecture

The PS VR2 is Getting a Permanent Price Drop

Sony is dropping the price of the PlayStation VR2. The company announced a permanent price drop for the headset, which has struggled to gain the same excitement as the original PS VR hardware back on PS4. The price drop is effective from March.

In a blog post, the company says the PS VR2 will have a new recommended retail price in different regions. The US price has dropped from $550 down to $399, and in the UK, the headset is dropping from £529 down to £399.

I don’t have the South African price available for you at the moment. However, the PS VR2 is one of the most expensive pieces of gaming tech in our region. Back in 2023, we saw the headset skyrocket in price as it went from the launch price of R13,499 to R15,499.

The new price drop will hopefully bring this back down to a more realistic RRP. I want to say the headset could retail for just over R10,000/R11,000. If you take the old asking price for the UK model at £529 and our previous RRP, you get R25,80.

This exchange times the new RRP in the UK gives you R10,294. So expecting the PS VR2 headset to retail at R11,000 isn’t a far stretch.

And I bought one last week...

To be fair I got it for a decent price, R12500 with charging dock. I can't imagine the price will be that much better.
With the charging dock that's still a good price.

I paid R10k for my Horizon bundle off Carb (was still sealed in box) but had to buy the charge dock separately which was another R800.

Co-worker came in with his PS5 today.

New problem I never seen, PS5 boots into Safe mode and only option is to re-install the OS. Trying that also fails eg:

Safe mode only allow for OS re-install

That Also fails and gives

His started cause he unplugged his son's PS5 cause of a lightning storm.

Most of the Hits I get Google points to power loss giving the problem and some reports from games causing the corruption.
Some got it fixed; others had to take the console back to Sony.
See Thread 1, Thread 2 and many others.

Basically that said, I now have a new fear unlocked :D

Just don't use standby/rest mode. Charge one controller while you're using the other. When you switch it off, it must be completely off...

He knows that, told him many times. The nana can't recall if his son used rest mode when he unplugged it for the lightning.
