PS5

The rift's teleportation to whole new worlds without load times and such is really the 1st game that puts the system to a full test. All the other games to date could basically run on PS4 but I don't see this being ported not with all the tech it uses hence my saying its the 1st real PS5 game ;)

Disagree, Demon's Souls made pretty good use of the hardware, as does Returnal it seems.

Demon souls can easily be ported to lower speced systems, simple drop in FX and it will run. Hell with low enough graphics you can even run it on a PS3 <-- See what I did there :p

Don't know a lot about Returnal, but pretty sure FX looks nice but dropping FX would mean it can still run on PS4 if they wanted to. Controller options can be turned off so its not a be-all feature. Will see when it comes out.

Dropping FX on R&C not gonna make an entire map load as fast as you can jump through a portal ;)

Sorry but Returnal fast travel loads maps instantly. Miles Morales +-2s to load. Demon's Souls +- 5s to load a level. None of this would be possible on a PS4.

PS5's available at BT Games, shipping next week as per their page

WTF has porting stuff to lower specs got to do with the games being a good advertisement for the PS5?

Housemarque On Returnal’s Lack Of Saving: “We Hear The Community”

Returnal developer Housemarque has addressed concerns about the lack of a save option during the middle of a run in the PS5-exclusive roguelike, which launched today worldwide.

The studio was responding to a post on Reddit, where a user argued that a better save option should be implemented for a few reasons:

Busy people need to save!
players shouldn’t be able to choose between save-files and the save-files should be automatically deleted as soon as you die so the rouge-like character of the game won’t get destroyed
In response, Housemarque acknowledged the issue and assured gamers that it is listening to its community, although didn’t outright confirm that anything was in the works at this stage. Hopefully this will change, however.

We hear the community and we love you all. Nothing to announce now, but keep playing and enjoying the challenge as you can!

Better than the other (usual) call for an "easy mode" every time a game like this comes out.

The ability to resume from where you left off is a pretty reasonable request.

Does anyone know how I can go about replacing my dualsense?
Got a nasty case of the analog drift issue on one of my controllers

Game has pre-orders open, and just as I placed an order - Koodoo notification comes through that they have stock.
Anyone knows the expected date from game?

Apologies for going off topic. I've just given my PS4 Pro to a family member, but the weird thing is that when resetting it for handover over the weekend, the thing was as quiet as a PS5. When I stopped using it months ago on PS5 launch, it was starting to annoy me with its fan noise getting louder and louder.

And the PS4 is still as "quiet as a mouse", to quote those using it now. They can't hear the fan at all. It gets hot, but not unbearably so to the touch.

I reckon the fan must be bust then? How can one confirm for sure? Also, any risks with playing it without a working fan? Other than it shutting down if it overheats, that is.

Also, who could repair a fan - Partserve?

Have you opened it?

I did mine after I got my PS5. Also gave my PS4 Pro to a family member but before I did I opened and cleaned the inside completely and added new thermal paste as well. You wouldn't believe how much dust it collects over time.

But yeah, Partserve would be your best best if you're not comfortable messing around inside your Pro. They'll swap it out for a fee though.

PS: I would NOT advise running it without a fan.

PlayStation announces partnership with Discord, integration to start "early next year"

Microsoft very recently bid $10 billion to buy Discord, but the deal fell through.

"Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network," reads the announcement from Sony. "Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together."

The details on PlayStation's deal with Discord are still relatively vague, and they don't clearly spell out what exactly this means for gamers, the PS4 and PS5, and the Discord app itself. One obvious implication is that we might see a Discord app launch on PlayStation, but the deal could also simply mean connecting Discord and PlayStation Network for more seamless communication on consoles and mobile devices. Sony says it'll have more to share on the matter "in the coming months."

Ok thanks. I'll see if they are able to open it up.

Makes you wonder if Microsoft knew of Sony's plans and if that knowledge was the reason for the bid?

Internal espionage anyone?

Oh, it's only MS attempting to throw another $10 billion or so at their gaming division in order to become a monopoly (and buy what they can't build).

Moving on.....
