Seagate's FireCuda 530 is the World's First PlayStation 5 Compatible SSD

Need to add some extra storage to your PS5? This SSD has capacities of up to 4TB!

Seagate has confirmed that their FireCuda 530 SSD will be PlayStation 5 compatible, supporting next-generation games on the console using the systems user-accessible M.2 slot.

While Sony has not yet enabled storage expansion on their PlayStation 5 through the system's internal M.2 slot, the company has previously stated that they plan to enable the slot this summer through a new firmware update. After this update is released, PlayStation 5 users will be able to upgrade their consoles with M.2 NVMe SSDs that are fast enough to meet or exceed Sony's storage requirements.

With sequential read speeds of up to 7,300 MB/s, Seagate's FireCuda 530 SSD offers performance levels exceeding Sony's PS5 SSD requirements. Seagate's FireCuda 530 SSD is available in 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB capacities and can be purchased with or without an integrated heatsink.

Here's what Seagate's country manager for New Zealand, Jeff Park, had to say about the FireCuda 530's PlayStation 5 compatibility;

We have done some testing with Sony on the PlayStation 5 and today we can confirm that the FireCuda 530 with the heatsink has met all the PS5 requirements. With the PS5 design, the SSD card slot is very narrow, so there's not much room for the SSD to mount.

However, with the FireCuda 530 – even with the heatsink on the top – the slim design allows for it to fit. Of course, the FireCuda 530 without the heatsink is slimmer, so both of them will fit into the PS5.

Between my kids and I this is basically a necessity
Must admit I don't see the need for it at this point for myself.

I seldom play more than a game or 3 at a time. My PS4 library all sits an on external 3TB drive which I can also move PS5 games to for "deep storage". If I really must re-download a game there is nothing so large that cannot be done in a hour or 3 via a 100mb connection.

Would I like everything on super fast storage? Sure, but I'd sooner add that NVMe to my PC instead.

My issue is that there's 3 of us playing with completely different tastes. Warzone, RDR2, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and that's 350GB+ gone.

Ive seen PS5 consoles available online for like 3 weeks now, looks like the SA demand has relaxed.

I'm gonna keep off buying one until we hear from Sony.

Not sure it will fit in the slot with a heatsink attached, but I ain't buying **** at those prices

'Sony also notes that the drive will need effective heat dissipation with a cooling structure, such as a heatsink.
This can either be single-sided, double-sided, or built-in, but must be within certain dimensions to fit in the bay.'

No idea how the module will fit into the bay with a heatsink.....

I think Sony is making this crap up as they go along

1TB and 2TB in stock though....

Now, if only there were no questions about the heatsink...anyone seen any PS5 reviews with this loaded?
I don't even see the 530 listed anymore. Careful it switches you to the 510 when you select the size ...

Probably because most online retailers are bundling the products making it rather expensive compared to a base console with one remote ?
