PS5

You suppose to stop playing or use a second controller.
Wow that sucks. Even more glad now that Series X is my primary console.

I much prefer the internal battery too as opposed to the AA solution, I have those play and charge battery kits for my Xbox controllers.
Isn't that a waste of money, all to introduce an issue standalone batteries naturally avoid (wiring up a controller)? Swapping out 2300mAh rechargeable AA batteries seems way better.

As per my @AlphaJohn chat, you can degrade your PS5 controller's battery health and the battery life is poor right out the box anyway. With removable batteries, none of this is an issue.

Go take swipes at the PS5 somewhere else dude - the fact that you bought a PS5 after being a rather ardent Xbox fanboi before says it all.

As the saying goes, actions speak louder than words :)

I will buy rechargeables anyway, and rechargeable AAs need a separate charger so it's one more thing that you have to keep around, much easier to just have the battery already in the controller and just plug a USB cable into it (or dock it when not in use).

Latest Makro catalogue. Is this a good price? I'm new to this.
Yes, it's an amazing price. Nearly a grand off what most retailers sell that particular NVMe for, and with the discount, it's right around the value point for a PS5 NVMe. So you're not saving any money, because options like this exist anyway, but you're getting more value. The read/write speeds on that WD drive are exceptional.

It doesn't say anything other than that I'm willing to buy a console to play a few excellent platform-exclusive games. It's no different to my OLED Switch - I own it only to play a handful of Nintendo exclusives. And like with the PS4, I bought a PS5 to play a handful of exclusives as well.

Obviously I was curious as to the general user experience compared to the Series X, and whether it was a mistake to first invest in Xbox. I'm not a fanboy of any platform - I started with Xbox because Game Pass Ultimate is the best value in gaming. And now that I've got all the current gen consoles, I'm much more confident that Xbox serves me best as my primary console.

But plenty of things use batteries so you have one of those chargers already anyway…

And like you said about the Play and Charge kits having the option would have been nice.

I have one Play and Charge kit between about 5 Xbox controllers and it’s the one that always annoys me because when it goes flat I now can’t use that controller and have to go fetch another one for which can simply change the batteries.

The Ori games and Desperados III are awesome! Check out Shadow Tactics if you haven't played it already, very similar to Desperados and from the same dev.

Our tastes might be quite similar. I'm very much not into the popular shooters like COD and Battlefield or the gazillion battle royale online games that seem to dominate these days. I'll take a single player, story-driven adventure any day though.

I'm comparing these two scenarios:

PS5: controller frequently runs out of battery and needs to be plugged in while you continue playing.
Series X: battery life is vastly superior, when I get a low battery warning I take a few seconds to swap out the rechargeable AA batteries and continue playing wirelessly.

So for PS5 the only comparable solution is to buy an extra controller so that you can swap between them constantly. Which I'm not particularly keen to buy.

I'm very unimpressed with the PSN+ Deluxe Super edition I've got. The naming is stupid and confusing, perusing the games is hilariously unintuitive due to how they're segmented, I couldn't even find some games that I know are in the service (and eventually found them via some curated lists), and the list of games isn't even that impressive. Once you chop out the filler that must have cost Sony almost nothing, there are scant few premium titles available.

The fact that Sony doesn't even throw in first-party titles like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, that Sackboy game, the Ratchet & Clank PS5 game, Gran Turismo 7, both Last of Us games, even at the highest tier of subscription, is disgraceful imo. The latest MLB: The Show is available on Game Pass but not in Sony's service, as a Sony-published title.

Koodoo tends to also have the best controller prices. Currently just R100 off though. Black Friday is coming if you can wait. I'll be surprised to see a further price cut on a standalone controller, but there could be some good bundles, like some combination of headset + remote + controller.

Will definitely check out Shadow Tactics.

I've concluded that I'm picky - I need the graphics, story, gameplay and music to dovetail in order to keep me interested enough to actually finish a game.

I still havent found something that is as good as Ori in the platformer genre (Hollow Knight just isn't it) - sadly it appears the Ori 3 will never see the light of day.

Check out Trine and Trine 2. Very awesome side-scrollers as well, with beautiful graphics. Owlboy and Dust: An Elysian Tail are also similar, and also older games. They're a bit of a different genre, but the Rayman games are also insanely good side-scrollers. Oh, and Deadlight is a beautiful side-scroller as well themed around zombies.

I assume you've played the Uncharted games already? Those are the gold standard for epic adventure games imo.

I haven't played Uncharted.

Thank for all the other recommendations too.

You are talking absolute nonsense as far as I am concerned. You cry fowl because you have a crappy monitor that doesn't do justice to the capability of the PS5? Then moan about a secondary dualsense needed- but just mentioned now how many systems you have purchased?

You crack me up with your BS.

No offence taken, because everyone seems to talk nonsense as far as you're concerned.

I'm using a colour accurate, 1440p, 32" professional monitor that cost around R15k a few years ago. Hardly a crappy monitor. All my games look amazing on it, and I have a 4K TV in the living room anyway for comparison.

Everything has an opportunity cost. I should have no need for a second controller for my PS5 so buying one sounds dumb to me. My Xbox doesn't need two controllers.

Ignore that.

Thing is Horizon/God of War Ragnarok are PS4 games.

And yeah you not only need a second controller you need a charging dock too.

My controllers are always docked (it charges only if it needs to) and I can stretch 7 hours out of it, around 5 if I use it for chat too.

Yea, just take a look at the actual PS5 exclusives, Rift Apart, Demon's Souls and Returnal look, and play, incredible. I seriously doubt there are MS games that compare well on that front, but I'm willing to be corrected.

Have you tried Islets? Not nearly as good as Ori but it scratches that itch nicely. It's not long so doesn't overstay it's welcome, and is fairly cheap
