This is what happens when you have no competition.
You start thinking you are too big to fail.
Sony can thank their lucky stars that Xbox's studios misfired this generation. This waste of time chasing a live service hit has cost the fans new games from top studios this generation.
Yep, they did follow the "trend" and it didn't pan out.
But, thinking Sony have no competition when there is Nintendo, Xbox and PC gaming out there is just idiotic.
For sure, Nintendo is quietly doing their own thing and PC gaming has surged over the last few years. Right now, the best gaming of both worlds is having a PC and PS5 imo (or Switch if you into Pokemon and Mario), although having a PS will most likely become more viable now going forward since Sony discontinued PC ports.
And yes, I know one can PC game in the lounge, but I don't want to have to updated drivers and optimise game settings constantly.
We are so far into this generation of consoles that it really is old news by now that both Sony and Xbox have had a pretty shyte time over the last 4-5 years.
Both had some epic failures, made bad business decisions and ultimately it came down to how many fans came across from previous generation and stuck with a brand due to being in an ecosystem. Sony was so strong in PS4 era whereas Xbox was in a kek place with the Xbox One.
Neither can say they did well this gen, it was just who had the bigger base that came over to this gen.
Like I said previously, Sony can just be fortunate that Xbox went sideways because they started with a bang with the cheaper Series S and Gamepass and if it wasn't for the lack luster releases and "everything is an Xbox" which alienated fans they could have dominated.
Absolutely. I've posted before they just had their most profitable year ever. Not sure why folk keep on wanting to repeat this fallacy.Sony IS having a good gen, despite what people think about their 1st party output. The PS5 has made them more money than all the other gens combined, and it's not even done yet. And there's a bunch of huge games coming out in the next year and a half, considering everything they messed up and covid...I'd say it's doing great lol
"It is lucky, you know, we are in the latter half of the lifetime cycle of a PS console. That means that we do not need to aggressively sell the console today. And rather than that, we're focusing on recurring revenue from the current, you know, the user base."
Straight up telling you how much they are planning to milk you.
