Features updated in system software version 2.50 include the following:

[LocationFree™ Player] has been added as a feature under [Network].
[Auto-Select] and [Unicode (UTF-8)] have been added as options to [Encoding] under [View] in the [Internet Browser] menu bar.
Settings for [Text Size] and [Display Mode] in [Internet Browser] can now be saved.
The input history of online forms accessed through [Internet Browser] can now be saved.

Copyright-protected video can now be played under [Video].

Note that fees may be charged to obtain or use copyright-protected video.
Downloadable copyright-protected video may not be available in all countries
and regions.

[Set via Internet] has been added as an option to [Date and Time] in [Date & Time Settings] under [Settings].
[WPA-PSK (AES)] has been added as a security method under [Network Settings].

Korean input mode has been added to the on-screen keyboard.

Needless to say HomeBrew Apps & Emulators will no longer be available to you.
I suspect that this update will be required to play the upcoming title Grand Theft Auto: Liberty Stories.

i am starting to think Sony is worse than Microsoft... blackmailing us to upgrade or else not be able to play newer games.

pffft....

Dont forget Sony's proprietry memory sticks that cost an sbsoloute fortune.
The debacle that i have had with my PSP has made me rethink my stance on Sony products especially the PS3. I might just check out the XBOX 360 before loyally getting a PS3......

@WiseCrack .

The Ps3 probably will win in because of the sheer loyalty of the consumers from the PS1 / PS2 consoles.
But following ps3forums.com shows that quite a lot of developers are leaning towards the 360 .

However i'll wait until both consoles are out and look to where the better games are.

is it just me or is a there a new PSP firmware every week

PS3 Developers Jumping Ship

"A recent Japanese article about PS3 developer support has an insider source claiming that the initial investment for PS3 software development it at least ¥2 billion (U$S 17.6 million), and that figure does not include the actual development costs associated directly with the title.

This initial investment, according to this insider source, is "nothing but a nightmare for many Japanese software development companies."

Not even considering the PS3 will have to catch up to the X360 as well. I for one dont mind them both going to each other throats, it will make it better for us consumers. :D

2.1 Patch was soley to block that buffer overflow exploit.
2.5 was released as planned.

Quite frankly i dont see any real reason to upgrade.
There is theat location free TV. But that requires a broadband connection @ minimum 300kbps
