A lot of the good dealers online only make 5% profit.

The 120mm fan is used to suck air from chassis into PSU and push it out at the back......

OK so i guess il compare his prices to...Which onine dealer(s)?
LOL,coz his so delayed,i get to constantly change my mind before he even orders my stuff,so its a blessing in disguise:D

International sites give conflicting stories, some say modular, some say not. And OCZ site doesn't say anything about modular (If it's modular they will definitely mention it as one of the features). So I guess not modular then.........

i would go for at least a 600W... to be covered.

The top card now needs 580W :p

So youll be covered....

And good makes are
Antec
Coolermaster (N.B. eXtremePower 600W & 650W are substantially overrated).
Corsair
Enermax
Etasis
Gigabyte
Lite-Onl
OCZ
Seasonic
Silverstone
Thermaltake Toughpowers
Zalman

(Thanks to ceewi1 from Computer forum for this list...)

Im currently looking at:
a)Paying +\- R1000.00
b)Minimum 600w
c)Modular
d)Preferably silent(laptop style fan cooling)

currently considering IN ORDER OF PREFERENCE:

1)Raidmax volcano 630W psu (R817.45)
2)Omega iSonic Megapower 600W Modular Cabling (R526.34)
3)HuntKey Silent King 650w (R760.27)
4)CoolerMaster Extreme Power 650W PSU (R643.30)

If all else fails...

5)Zalman ZM600-HP : 600w ( 12v : 504w ) + heat-pipe technology (R1360.68)
6)Thermaltake ToughPower 650W - ATX 12V 2.2, EPS 12V Version (R1423.06)

Good choice of PSU's, I have the Zalman 460W cant hear the thing and runs cool.

IMO anything more than 500W is overkill, my PC only uses 120W idle and 160W on max.

:eek:what components are in your pc???
I even tried plugging in my 2600 xt with my current 300w psu (coz it said 350 watt RECOMENDED on the box)the fan spun, but drivers refused to install co it said no ati components detected.

overall I think nvidia is a better product coz ati even tries to complicate driver installation

Some are 3yr old components...

AMD Athlon64 2ghz
MSI ATI express motherboard
1GB DDR
Radeon x300 PCIe card
Raptor 74GB SATA
Seagate 250GB SATA
ASUS Lightscribe DVDRW SATA
TV Tuner
6 120mm fans
Logitech USB only speakers

yeah... I've ordered the Zalman mfc2 fan controller and this will display my wattage in realtime so when I upgrade to Quad with nvidia GT card I'll see how much more I consume.

I use my UPS to monitor my wattage in realtime ATM.

Here is a good blog (a little old but still relevant)
http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000353.html

In my opinion it's safer to go for a quality 450W-500W PSU than a cheap 600W-800W PSU, the quality brands are reliable and are more often true estimates unlike the cheap ones which could only be as powerful as a good 350W PSU

Less, Around R12XX. I intended to get that one a couple weeks ago but later think it will also be overkill for my current system. Sorry internet problem currently......

A high-end 500W will give you a much more stable system than a low end 600W, you'll be able to tell this by how many amps are on the 12V line. 30+ is better, mine is 34A.

When I said overkill for my system I meant the price of the Corsair compared to the current Omega Isonic. BTW my current system running at full load will probably be around a little over 300W if not lower. And now I got a 600W Max PSU, not safe?

cool,im no tech junkie, didnt know bout the whole amp thing..

by saying it'd be safe to rather get a 600w psu,i mean as in future proof for upcoming hardware,

Ok, the wikipedia article explains it better I think
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_power_supply#False_advertising

But if you want to go with 600W that's fine just make sure you have more than 30A on the 12V rail and you'll have a stable system

ok,the efficiency part hit me as id be wasting unused power if I dont use close to the full 600w (and we all know how good eskomell is at providing ample power:rolleyes:) however i'll be sure to check the amps thingie out as well.
thing is,since my newly purchased 2600xt isnt as close to cutting edge as my 6600 gt was back in the day,I honestly cant afford to buy another power supply which will not deliver the goods if i decide to upgrade to, say...
a 9800 gt:cool:

get what im sayin?

Make sure the PSU has enough farking molex connectors. I just discovered I can't add another HDD without soldering something because my PSU only has 4 molex connectors, two of which I need for the Radeon.

/me shoots PSU designer
